I have noticed many people wanting suggestions on cheap tires. This blows my mind. Especially the people that have dropped $5k+ on power mods just to cheap out on tires.
What am I missing here? Am I in the minority? Tires are the one thing I won’t cheap out on.
I have not modified my GT in anyway to make more power. I honestly can’t afford it at the moment with the added upkeep. I guess I’d rather save my money for good tires and maintenance than a super charger.
I'm not sure I want to spend $1200 on tires every few weeks. If I'm tracking my car. That's where the turn over doesn't make sense to over spend. There's that sweet spot with affordability and ability. You just have to try it out.

I remember when I was poor as a young lad. I bought used tires for my first V6 SN95. They always did the trick for cheap.

I completely understand the financial struggle of buying good tires. Like I said in my original post, it’s the people that spend thousands of dollars on power mods just to buy the cheapest tires that blow my mind.
I also think if you can’t afford good tires for your Mustang you should have probably bought a cheaper car. Other people’s finances aren’t my business though, as long as they aren’t putting me or other people on the road in danger. .

Until I have specific needs for a tire, I just run the cheapest and highest tread wear rating I can find in a certain size. Mine just sees highway use for now. If I throw some power into it, I’ll get a different set of wheels and tires to throw on occasionally.

I had my own tire shop for ten years 08 to 2018 I sold all types of tires and some of the worst tires I had were brand name tires. I sold the crap out of Hankook tires, and they were some of the best tires out there. I would not sell some tires that were just junk. It would always be brand name but low end. I have Nittio 555 G2 on my Mustang now and this forum has nothing good to say about them, but so far, they have been a good tire. I also like to experiment with different tires, and I will make up my own mind of what works for me. I have one advantage to reduce the cost I still have all my equipment, so I don't pay for mounting and balancing and my old supplier will still sell me tires at cost plus sales tax.

I got sucked into watching a channel on YouTube where they buy performance cars at salvage auctions. Many of them crashed and that's why they are being scrapped out. Nearly all of those cars have junk tires on them.

The guys making the videos even commented on it.

Make of that what you will.

You can say it was bad tires, or more likely bad drivers.

I was just relaying that this salvage place noticed a commonality on crashed performance vehicles.

I have no idea how good the drivers were. Possibly in some cases, there was another driver involved that caused the accident, but the tires didn't give enough grip to avoid it.

This discussion was about buying cheaper brands, but another issue on rarely used vehicles is old tires that have become rock hard, but still have plenty of tread remaining. I'd encourage people to be as selective when it comes to the age of the tires as they are with brand.

Driven by a soccer Mom who has three kids in it none of which are belted in while she is doing 40 in a 25 while texting.

Bonus points for the Dad who bought the Suburban or Escalade because its a “safe” car for his family.

See it all the time. They are the worst drivers on the planet. Well, except for the drunk ones.

Even “good” performance tires are often a death sentence if they are cold or wet. IMO the only “safe” street tires are ECS02, PS4S, and A052.
