The whole premise of the S650 is simply “How do we take the S550, and make it worse?”. They could have just done a refresh like 2018. Gen 4 Coyote, minimal exterior changes, good quality screen with a digital dash, better quality materials and an unlocked ECU. That’s it. It wasn’t rocket science, yet somehow they just dropped the ball.
I’m on my 2nd Mach 1. The 1st was without the Handling Package and cloth seats. I was looking at buying a Dark Horse.

1. The price with the HP was about $70,xxx.
2. The computer is locked.
3. The DH does outperform the Mach 1 by enough for the price increase.
4. Look like the new rear brakes are too big for a 17’s wheel for drag radials.

I did love the new screens and interior. Plus, the color of the one I took the picture of is exactly the one I would get.

I actually think Ford tried to make the S650 a combination of a Camaro, Challenger, Supra and F82. Just keep a Mustang a Mustang with updates. Instead they forced the Mustang buyers to look at Supras and BMWs. It’s not rocket science, but then again Jim Farley’s Ford is a mess.
The new BMW’s are pretty nice and fast in the M Competition trim. Price is crazy!

What color?

Edit: Nevermind, I’m an idiot. Vapor Blue is what’s in the picture 🤦‍♂️

When they first revealed the new S650 on TV (YouTube stream) my wife walked into the room and said is that the new Camaro? That was that! I hate that they did triple square lights on the front, very much a Camaro like look. Mach 1 all day, everyday long.

And if you look at the rear end real fast it looks a lot like some of the Hyundais.
Camaro front, Sonata ass. What a combo...

Personally dont think either car looks bad but I think the Mach 1 is about as bad ass as you can get on the s550s without going to shelby. I want one... Just not the right time.

Yep, me too (on my second Mach 1, first was non HP). Wanted a tad bit more.. Considered the DH but did not like the new design etc. and for the price. Also considered finding a 1 owner, low mileage '19 or '20 GT350 but at the time what I could find the prices were high and I was leery of paying $70k up for a 5-year-old car. So, the Mach 1 with the HP was and still is perfect fit for me.

Side note and off topic a bit; The other day I saw a Dodge Charger Scat Pack - electric version - for $80k! I had a '20 Scat Pack (mid-life crisis..) that I bought for $40k. So, $80k now for a fugly looking E Charger. Yikes. Ok, back on topic; yep, Mach 1 is just fine and worth every penny,

The "shoulders / hips" and the "butt" are what ruin it for me with the S650, I could have somehow befriended with the rest.
It's like a very pretty woman on whom almost everything is right, but who lacks the right curves in the necessary places. Quite nice for a short look but don't bother for more, clearly not wifey material.
Even the "face" made up as a raccoon would have been OK somehow, but the curves... 😅

Mach 1 for me. From the side view shown, it's just more Mustang looking. Also the rear end of the S650 looks like an example of an odd shape sheet metal can be be forced into, whereas the rear of the S550 is pure damn sexy.

Sometimes these kinds of threads are biased towards hating the new version by owners of the old version, but I think in this particular case, people are genuinely turned off by the looks and screens. I mean, we're into the end of the 2nd model year and many of us could certainly afford to trade into a DH if we wanted to. Personally I like the appearance of the S650 GT over the DH, can't get over the DH raccoon face and the hood decals are way overkill. Like if you're going to cover 90% of the hood with 3 decals, just wrap the whole thing like an SS 1LE and be done with it. Come to think of it, that would make it look even MORE like a Camaro.

Performance wise they're basically the same car. If the DH is a couple tenths quicker in any given test, whatever, it's a driver's race at that point. I'd welcome any DH challenge with the mods I have, visual or performance.

I don't hate the S650 as much after seeing it in person as I did from pics, but it's still a step backwards from the S550 for me.

I’m for the new screen and or additional tech considering the fact that most cars that we are going to be price shopping for that a similar in performance are stepping their game up too.

However, $70,000 plus for a N/A car is just silly when you are going to run into a BMW M2 or M3 when you leave Cars and Coffee. It’s going to be all bad! 🏎💭 🤬

If they would have put a more reliable 5.2 liter with 540hp or better in it, I would have bought it immediately.

While I didn’t buy it this time due to lack of tuning, lack of extra performance for the money, and higher price; I don’t dislike the Dark Horse.

Also, it seems there is some kind of disdain here for people who bought a Mach 1 or GT350 as if they shouldn’t be happy with their own purchase. Those cars in stock form provide more performance than the base or standard GT model from which they were derived. That is the whole reason of want one.

This doesn’t make a person superior, but the car from the manufacturer is in fact superior in certain aspects be it looks, performance, and or collectibility due to lower production and or special options.

“Man makes the money, money don’t make the man.”

Nor does the larger car note…

Here is a secret for the “Part Bin” statement guys…. All of Fords cars are built with items out of a parts bin. GT500, GT350, Mach 1, GT, ect.

This ain’t no 1 off Bugatti!

Exactly, even the AC Shelby Cobra was parts bin.

Ford designers hit the mark with the S550. I find it to be attractive and aggressive just enough while not being overdone and personally I think it will age well. The S650 exterior wise is pretty close, in fact enough that it would come down to something else significantly different to rule one out over the other. Earlier in this thread Camaro’s, Supra’s and BMW’s were mentioned and along with the S650 interior that is the one thing. Horrible interior designs with poor integration of the infotainment screens make all of them deal breakers. Many will disagree but a personal choice.
