It is currently illegal in all states for Ford to have a direct sale model. This is because all of the states have laws in place that prevent a MFR from competing with its own dealers. If you want to buy directly from Ford, you MUST get the government involved, in order to change the laws.

Tesla is able to avoid this because they don't have any of their own dealers to compete against. Therefore they are allowed to sell direct.

However, the dealership lobby is trying to get the laws changed (and they have been successful in many states). Typically they try to "refine" the existing law preventing a MFR from competing with ITS dealers, to state that a MFR cannot compete with ANY dealer. This effectively prevents any MFR from selling anywhere since there will always be one dealer (even from a different brand) in that state.

I'm sure the MFR's would love the options of a direct sales model in certain cases, but it is just not legal at this time. So it definitely is a government issue and no amount of whining to Ford will change things. Of course, the best way to push change though the government is with lobbying dollars, so it's difficult for individuals to compete with large lobbying groups on that front.

I do think the GT350 will start off with ADM's in most popular markets, but I am hopeful that they will go away relatively quickly (less than 6 months).

My local dealer figures he will get 5-6 first year, same as the first GT500
Already has a list of 16 people who want.
Lucky for me I am first on that list:)

Edit: He gets his updates on the product from me.
Which I get here, to funny.

For now, Ford could follow Dodge/SRT on how they handle allocations to their dealers on high performance, limited availability models. I really hope they do something like what is detailed below as Ford dealers are some of the worst in regard to ADM:

The excitement surrounding the introduction of the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat has been overwhelming. That excitement for the most powerful muscle cars in history has driven product demand at an unprecedented rate and many enthusiasts have placed orders at a local dealer without understanding if/when that dealer will receive an SRT Hellcat. As we listen to our customer feedback, it has become apparent that incomplete and inaccurate information abounds regarding the process by which SRT Hellcat production is allocated to our dealer body. We want to clear up any confusion that exists.
Any Dodge/SRT dealer can place orders for as many SRT Hellcats as they wish. However, because the factory can only build a specified number of SRT Hellcats each month, we prioritize each month’s available production to our dealers based on the following criteria:
· The number of total Dodge/SRT branded products (any model) a dealer has sold in the last 90 days (higher volume = higher priority)
· The number of SRT Hellcats a dealer already has in stock (higher stock = lower priority)
· The average number of days each SRT Hellcat remained on a dealer’s lot unsold in the prior month (more days = lower priority)
These criteria are intended to distribute all available SRT Hellcats to customers in the shortest time possible. Every Dodge/SRT dealer is evaluated based on these criteria in the first week of every month and available production is allocated to dealers accordingly. When demand exceeds available production, not all dealer orders can be accommodated.
Additional production capacity occasionally becomes available between allocation periods due to increased efficiency, supplier part availability, etc. When this occurs, we allocate the additional production to dealers based on the following criteria:
· Dealer overall sales performance
· The age of any existing unfilled orders (older = higher priority)
· The type of order - customer or dealer stock? (customer = higher priority)
· Vehicle configuration requested by unfilled orders
We remain committed to delivering as many SRT Hellcats as possible.
Thank you for your passion, enthusiasm and patience,
Dodge & SRT Brand
Sorry but this is bullcrap, and NOT true.....they only built 308 Hellcat's for this 2015 year and 500 Chargers and that is IT !!! ALL Challenger Hellcat have been sold and allocated PERIOD ....we can see what happens next year but really...I would not take a Hellcat now if they told me my order has a VIN number, now that I know the gt 350R is avail, in the next few months. In my opinion MOPAR just screw them selves...

Regarding paying over MSRP:

I know a poor schlub who paid $20k over retail for the then new GT500. That additional value evaporated over the ensuing months, if not the moment the dealer cashed his check.

I garufvckingtee that the same will happen with the high volume GT350.

The caveat emptor half of my brain has zero sympathy for anyone who pays over MSRP on these cars.

How's that for a first post? :D

Well said, and all too true, I would never pay more than MSRP for any new car knowing what I know, all that extra spent is just straight throwing away thousands of dollars, nuff said.

If you are willing to pay over MSRP to get one of the first, fine by me. I am fine waiting until I'm able to get one at MSRP.

The government is made up of lots of people who make their living trading favors. They will do whatever the person with the most cash in their hand wants. As a consumer, don't look to the government to save you money. That is not its function.

About 1,500 Hellcats built thru December. That is in addition to the pre-production versions that got VINs. Production in January is about 35 per day. It is not clear that all orders will be filled for 2015 model year. In an attempt to fill all MY2015 orders, Dodge has extended the MY2015 for two extra months.

If you shop around and call as many dealers as possible eventually you will find a dealer who will order you one under MSRP.

I'm going to weigh in with my two cents and in 12 months, tell you I told you so. A base GT350 will be easy to get at MSRP with a few phone calls. The 350R will be a different animal. When the order banks open, you will have plenty of dealers around the country selling at MSRP. CAVEAT: If you want the car in the first month or two after release, you will pay a premium. It may take up to 10 months from the day you order until delivery. (3500 dealers will be ordering at least 1, it will take 30 weeks to get those allocated) If you can't find one when the order banks open, PM me and I'll give you a dealer. This is a MY16, so I wouldn't expect it to start showing until a few months after Job Last (Unknown date at this time)

This is NOT accurate at ALL. Only 305 Hellcat Challengers are being built for the WHOLE 2015 YEAR end of story.

Guys, I think the GT 350 in 1 month or less will be MSRP and in 4 months you will get a small deal. FORD dealer said the GT 350 will be made available for ALL. ONLY the GT350R will be a number "limited" production car. Not sure of the number. Look at every car Sports car that is..Like the Z-28 very limited, and they can not sell them at MSRP.. From where I live in Dallas TX a 500 mile search comes up 137 Z06's on the GROUND, and as much as I LOVE this car it is NOT a Z06.

Where are you getting these numbers from man, I can promise you they are not accurate and a simple googling to verify will tell you that while dodge had originally planed to only make 1200 hellcat challys for 15 they came out recently and said there would not be limit to how many cats they will build for 15MY
