Dropped off my new wheels at costco and had them install tires along with TPSM sensors (they're these 7006HPR Dill sensors). I checked their guide and it's supposed to work with Mustangs.

After bringing them home and installing them I drove about an hr but the sensors haven't synced up yet. I tried using this aftermarket TPMS19 tool after doing the whole relearn procedure but it won't recognize the front left tire at all.

Could it be that my cheap tool is just bad? Should I just go back to costco and have them perform the relearn since I'm assuming they do it for every car that comes?

if it recognizes any tire then the tpms tool works. as long as you enter the tpms learn mode and follow the steps on the gauge then its mos likely the tpms. i had issues with tpms faults that are fixed with a relearn. i get that every time i swap my summer tires on

I don't know if it recognizes any tire since the relearn procedure starts with front left and it doesn't beep for it

then swap a different tire onto the front left and retry the procedure if it still doesn't work then it's the tool if it does work then it's the sensor
Also you can go out of order when it says front left that's to assign that ID to the front left tire on your display you can start at the rear out of order and the car will still honk if you don't want to swap tires around

"NOVA", as in Nova Scotia? Is the car Canadian spec or US spec?

If I'm understanding the problem correctly, none of the sensors are being recognized. The auto-sync process is failing while driving. The re-learn procedure is failing when using the tool. This is the CJ Pony Parts explanation. IDK if it differs from what you're trying. https://www.cjponyparts.com/resourc...VLmqkn6XcnJbpfm-zZSw_Ys8rq_Wh3Zn2t3wSPOCQiTcb

I'm concerned about the Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors being used, specifically, the frequency.

From 2015-2023, Ford used either 315 MHz or 433 MHz as the TPMS frequency. 315 MHz was used in North America, which includes Canada. 433 MHz was used in EUR and parts of Asia. When confirming my thoughts, I noticed several posts referencing other vendors' Canadian vehicles as using 433 MHz in their late model cars. Further, when looking up TPMS units for a Canadian Mustang from a Canadian Ford Dealer, they also referenced 433 MHz with at least one unit.

You're correct the sensors should auto-sync. Ford's sensors have been doing that for at least a few years. Two conditions which can help:

1. Drive away from other Ford sensors and vehicles. Drive a block or two in the neighborhood, versus a busy motorway with heavy traffic.

2. Confirm the tires are the correct pressure, that they are not way over or way under the prescribed amount. See the door jamb.

Using Ford OEM TPMS units, mine sync in the first 100 meters. I've never had to use the tool.

If the process continues to fail...

- Call, e-mail or go by a local Ford dealer. Confirm the frequency needed

- Return to Costco. If you have the right one (suspected as the installed, 315 MHz), ask them to train the wheels to the car, as part of the previous job. If anything, they can confirm the installed sensors are illuminating (transmitting) and at what freq. If the installed sensors are the wrong frequency, discuss with Costco

Edit,

If you find the frequency is correct, the sensors are actually illuminating, but the car still won't recognize them, switch to the Ford OEM units. I realize this will be an additional expense. I honestly cannot remember a thread involving new, factory sensors and a problem. This web site is littered with Members and their experiences with non-Ford units.

Or Northern Virginia.
It certainly could be.

I've be caught on that a lot lately.

I mis-understand the derivative, something in the signature or the narrative.

If anything, it facilitates the discussion. :giggle:

Nova as in northern virginia haha. And yes I double checked the aftermarket sensors are also 315Mhz so I'll be going back today to have them sync them.

An US car will honk for each wheel when synced with that tool, I would be suprised if thats a Canadian region thing but it could be I guess.

if 3 out of 4 workgo back to costco or wallmart or whatever and demand they swap the bad one out.

next time get the Ford sensors, find a deal online for the OEM ones and its worth the extra money.

that tool is invauable with aftermarket sensors, but it shouldnt be required with OEM ones.

Take back to Costco they force those sensors on tire buyers for compatibility assurance and they warranty them.

Cool. I guess it depends on the tire dealer. I went to Les Schwab to install snow tires on my Honda and I gave them new TPMS sensors to install in the new wheels. When I picked it up, they told me they weren't able to program the sensors (which I got from Amazon). I told them don't worry about it, went home and got my ATEQ tool to read the ID numbers and then used my Snap-On scanner to program the IDs into the system. Drove 1/4 mile at more than 20 mph and the light went off. I guess some shops don't have the right equipment to reset some of the TPMS systems.
