Cool, so do you have photos of you weighing both hoods or this just speculation? Again, I would like to see factual data to back up these claims. I don't doubt its lighter but it would be nice to see what the precise weight savings are.

To me, this is more of a show part than a functional part. There is no CFD or IAT data to back up if this hood actually provides a meaningful benefit over the OEM hood. Shelby lists the only benefit, pretty much, is just for looks and it weighs slightly less.
Why should he provide anything to you? Just because you want it? If you want the data, buy the hood yourself and weigh it. In case you missed it, you’re not changing anyone’s mind here.

I plan on contacting Shelby when they are back from the holidays. I will report what they say in this thread. I will not gatekeep the info.

A 20# savings on a 4180# car isn't much of savings. I had AP Racing brakes on my old GT500 CFTP and that rotating mass reduction was a bigger difference while offering superior braking performance and pad selection/durability.

Except it’s been stated numerous times that the 20lb savings is being stacked with other weight savings, such as the fenders. You’re right, 20lbs on its own isn’t much. But the cumulative effect with other weight savings is impactful.

No sense in beating our heads against a brick wall here. He obviously thinks he knows better than everyone else and feels he has to criticize what others want for their cars.

It’s past time to just block and ignore this guy.

By that logic, every race team and manufacturer on the planet should stop using cargon fiber. On the two wheel side we’d switch stuff down to the actual hardware level to save weight. One part rarely makes a big difference but cumulatively it adds up real quick and so do the affects. As for your Shelby reference. SA produces cars for the street, not the track. They’re never going to reference a part to be used for a racing application. It would expose them to a liability they don’t have any interest in being part of.

No point in saving 20 lbs by swapping to lighter brake disks.

No point in taking out the extra seats to save 20 lbs.

No point in removing unneeded insulation and trim panels to save weight.

No point in swapping to a carbon seat bucket to save weight.

All of these things are pointless to do on their own.

See how stupid this argument is? Now, can we dispense with the idiotic comments from naysayers? FFS this is like arguing with my 5 year old.

Here we go again?

I was unaware that you no longer fly domestically. If you ever book an additional flight, please let me know.

Similarly, if you’re in town for personal reasons, please reach out.

If I ever find myself in your area, I’ll definitely contact you. Remember, it’s on me next time.

I don't do the above mods to save weight though. That isn't the primary purpose. I put on my AP Brakes to have better braking power and thicker pads/rotors that last longer. I remove the seats to fit in a roll bar(which adds weight back in) and replace the OEM seat with a bucket seat so I can have a proper harness for safety.

I don't disagree with your points but at the end of the day, this hood is mainly for the looks lol

That statement is absurd. It is a dry carbon hood that takes 20 pounds off the car. Again, and I dont know why people are not able to grasp this, but a cumulative weight reduction brings the overall weight down. This enables the car to handle better. Furthermore, the areas affected contribute to better weight distribution. 200 pounds to shed is a lot. How anyone can continue to argue against this point screams of arguing for the sake of argument, which by definition is trolling.

As the owner of a very low 9 second car, I can attest that owners of any real performance car, whether it’s road course, drag racing, roll racing, etc will sign up for a 20 pound weight savings every single day of the week and twice on Sunday. It all adds up pretty quickly and turns into a meaningful upgrade vs those that aren’t willing to go the extra mile. Forget the naysayers my friend.
