I have been after the Shelby Signature edition dry carbon fiber hood for a long time now. I have tried to use influence from people I know with no results.

For some reason, Shelby American, decided to release the hood and is now for sale. Anyone who wants to drop some weight off 'ol chubsy wubsey should consider this opportunity.

I really don't care that it's a Shelby SE product. What I like and want about it is that it is dry carbon, and cuts the weight of the OEM hood in half and realizes a weigh savings of 20 pounds.

The hood, combined with the AC vented front fenders will realize a total weight savings of 30 pounds. This, combined with a lithium ion battery, will further reduce the total weight reduction by 65 pounds.

Agreed. Cutting 20 pounds out of a single body panel piece is impressive. Heat extraction from the engine bay should rock and roll too.

Add the fenders, battery, all the rest of the junk (subwoofer, inflation kit, etc) it all adds up. It takes 'ol porky and brings it down quite a bit.

Glad to see they released this. IIRC, they wait 3 years until they release parts like this for general sale so as to keep their newer vehicle packages "exclusive". The most important thing for people to understand is that this hood will only fit 500's with the stock supercharger. If you've done anything aftermarket in that regard, you'd need a KR hood for the additional clearance.

It’s a gorgeous hood. Too bad my car is all forged look vs weave. Suppose I could paint the side vents and transfer my Python forged vent over…hmmm

What really surprised me is how heavy the composite stock hood really is…I expected it to be quite a bit lighter.

That is THE best hood ever. Too bad it’s just for the 500. A replica of that one would be legit. Very GT4 reminiscent, and can’t go wrong with that. Price point not even as bad as I thought it would be.

I called Shelby American to inquire about the lead time. It looks like I missed the deadline to have the hood shipped before the holidays. I was told it will go out early in the new year.

On a side note, the website said I needed to add heat shielding to the backside of the hood. I inquired about that and I was told that it is not needed. They said that because it's a dry carbon hood, the shielding is not necessary. So if anyone orders the hood, don't buy the heat shield.

Yup, all correct information. I have not been on the website to see any description, but I have been driving mine for over three years (albeit not balls to the wall on a track) with no issue or concern for the need for heat shielding.

It’s a good time for those longing for this hood. Easily the best looking hood for our cars, improved performance with the added heat removal ability, weight reduction, and at a price that I believe is pretty respectable.
