Y’all are arguing whether 20 pounds from the hood of the 500 is worth saving. Well 20 pounds is 20 pounds.

However, there’s one thing that y’all have all completely overlooked. That hood is beautiful and it is way cool.

Only one dummy was arguing against it…the rest of us like it.

But seriously, Tom is 100 correct. saving 20 here, 5 there, 15 more there is the method, and it works.

Adding in the reduction of heat and the satisfaction of the “easy on the eyes” beauty of the hood is icing on the cake.

Just curious, how many drivers look at their own body weight as a possible source of weight savings or does it matter? Spending thousands to lose 20 lbs maybe easier than changing diet and exercise. No offense to anyone specific in this thread, I’ve just seen plenty of folks who track their car and who have obviously done some work reducing vehicle weight who could definetly stand to lose some weight themselves.

I’m curious, how many 900hp cars have you had on a road course. Even the 700ish these cars have stock for that matter. Just trying to throw horse power at it, especially on a road course is rarely the best choice. Especially when the car comes from the factory with over 700 to start with.

Is it really a 20 pound saving though? Are they comparing a bare hood to the OEM hood with the inserts, hood insulator, and latch?

If you want to actually lose weight on your car, get rid of the OEM brakes and switch to AP Racing front and rear. You will be losing rotating mass and improving the brakes.

This hood is a knock-off of the GT4 hood, so I am not convinced there are meaningful cooling or aerodynamic advantages over the stock hood since there is no data to back it up. The trailing edge of this hood compared to the GT4 hood are also very different. The hood is also made by Tuscany for Shelby, so I highly highly doubt it was ever in a wind tunnel. Maybe we can have 'ol Carol to come back from the grave to tell us?

Yes but the GT4 and GT500 have different engines, so they have different cooling needs. Just because one hood works on a car in a specific application doesn't mean it will work for another vehicle with different cooling needs. Its not like the IAT temps were compared from stock hood and this knockoff hood.
