Ford has a new oil filter FL2087A. This filter has a plastic insert as opposed to a steel insert that is in the original OEM FL2087 filter. So be careful when you order filters that you get one with the metal liner inside. There have been reports of some dealers installing the wrong filter FL2087A and destroying motors.

Short - the 2087 is no longer produced - the 2087A is the correct filter for the GT500.

The 2062 is a GT350 filter and should NOT be used on the GT500, it will collapse with the heavier weight oil and pump system on the GT500. The 2087 addressed the structural problem with metal core and the A replaced that with a more robust plastic core (you can see the difference in the thickness and build of the 87A vs the 62.

Regardless -Find the 2087's if you can and hold them for the future. I have 6 :)

I remember a photo that got posted a few years back of a 2087-A that was removed from a 500 and the plastic core was completely collapsed. Tried like hell to find it but couldn't.

Meanwhile, I added another half dozen last week and I'm sitting on..

Utter BS. Same oil and same pump. All those filters work fine and there have been no engine failures in the GT500 due to filters.
This old conspiracy theory just won’t die.

Hmmm anyone know where to get a non A?
Will all the hoarding going on, you have a better chance of either seeing God or getting struck by lightening twice at this point especially for a fair price.

Your Scrod, well they still are some around for about $80-$90 a piece, try ebay but becareful as some are selling them without the O-rings. I told my Parts guy and my dealership he couldn't believe it and is trying to order an extra 4 for me I'll know either Monday or Tuesday if he got the right ones or not, but the price has easily doubled of these filters.

I swear the forums never cease to amaze.

First off, no, it wasn't a 2087-A that collapsed and failed. It was a 2062A, which was the old plastic frame, cellulose media. There's a REASON that Ford chose to differentiate the filter spec from the other applications with the same filter fitment.

Secondly, no it isn't myth. Fathouse reported multiple instances of removing collapsed filters. Whether those resulted in "failures" I agree, is a myth, but there's photos and documentation of the FACT that the OLD plastic frame, combined with the lesser flowing cellulose and certain conditions (i.e. very thick 5w-50 oil, cold conditions with a driver who isn't concerned about elevated rpms on a cold motor) and you have a recipe for huge pressure delta across the filter.

Ford elected to simplify the spec for the GT350's and update them to the 2087.

Fast forward to today. One can only ASSUME that Ford's choice to spec the 2087-A comes with some sort of verification that it's resolved WHATEVER concerns they had previously about the 2062A.

There are some elements of this discussion that are probably just going to remain speculation. Why did Ford change from the 2062A to the 2087? Is the 2087A as equally capable as the 2087 with the metal frame?

As with everything similar, the actual risks become pretty complicated. Is there more pressure delta across the filter if it's on the end of it's service cycle and filled with trapped materials? How does that compliment or oppose the fact that lubricant at the end of it's service cycle is significantly sheered and thinner, both cold and heated?

In essence, is there more pressure with cold, new oil and a new filter (at high rpm) or more pressure across the filter with aged sheared oil and a filter that's saturated with trapped contaminants in the media?

Truthfully, we'll probably never get any real answers to any of this. The whole discussion will create tribes of warring Neanderthals'.

Bottom line, the 2087 is probably not coming back. Participate in the mania/hoarding/gouging if you want. Most people will eventually have to succumb to the idea that they'll eventually have to run something other than the metal frame filter.

If you don't beat on your car when the oil is thick and the gauge tells you so at idle, you're probably going to be fine.

Fathouse made that claim once but only one pix of an improperly installed filter was provided. It was installed crooked and crushed by the housing.

I circled where the nipple was imbedded in the filter.
For the record, I don’t use any of those Motorcraft filters. I only use K&N in my cars.
BTW: If you order KR3Z-6A832-A filter housing, it comes with the one you are craving. I have a few of those in case I drop and crack another one. Might sell the filters separately on eBay. šŸ˜‰

I dropped my original filter housing and it broke the inner tabs off that secure the filter. Not a very sturdy product.
