why not the 3.0TT?
I was just citing engines in current production in size. 2.7 comes straight off the F-150. If the 3.0 is available to revive, sure, go ahead.

I doubt it would fit. But more importantly the GT350/500 crowd would be mighty bent out of shape.

And more importantly, would cost too much. Building an AWD system (steal Quatro from Audi) is well within the power envelope of the 2.7 and I'd guess the 3.0.

The 3.0 is alive and well, it's the only engine option in the explorer ST and it's also used in the bronco raptor. The 3.0 can handle quit a lot, there are plenty who are running 650+ awd hp on an Ex ST with bigger turbos and bigger injectors and pump. There is even someone who has run a 10.59 with one. That's hauling ass for a 5K lb SUV

Beat me to it, was going to say the something that the 3.0 is still out there. Been looking at an Explorer ST for my wife. She won’t break the mold from GM yet though…

BTW the 3.0 is based off the 2.7, but heavily modified. Just like the coyote is based off the 4.6 modular but the only thing that is interchangeable between the two is the motor mounts.

Ok, the next mustang was supposed to be built on the Explorer chassis, right? There's your 4 door, AWD solution. smash the explore green house down, lower it to sedan height, and take a chunk out of the frame and wheelbase

Actually I just realized the Edge is still around. Maybe lower/sedan'd it a tad. Or just go for ultimate lazy and relabel it 'Mustang 4'.

Still will be a tank.

Ford has done with Mustang the same thing they did with the T-bird. Too much bloat.

I want a Fox sized S550. Lets see click my heals 3 times....................

Ford needs a replacement for the edge anyway, so a 2 row smaller awd SUV built on the CD6 platform makes sense. them they could just modify that into a sedan a viola 4 door stang.

are you taller, like 6' plus? the 20+ explorers are rwd based and there is a lot more legroom in the front seats. You need to step up to a Tahoe or suburban to get a rwd based suv from gm.

Yes, I’m 6’1” and my wife is 5’11”. I’ve driven the new ST’s and I really like them. My wife has an Acadia currently and it’s comfortable in the front (and 2nd row, although my 6’2” son knees me in the back every now and then when all 4 of us are in her car).

Isn't the new Ranger Raptor also a 3.0?

Add about 6 feet in length, a back seat, and a huge hatchback so we can be one step closer to Robocop.
