I wonder if applying some downward pressure while hammering would make it easier? I had a lot of trouble with an aftermarket lock ring the last time I did a fuel pump for that reason. The spring pressure of the basket made it really hard to get the ring started. Big PITA lol
Possibly. I've always just used the OEM lock ring

Just my .02, did mine last week, (replaced with OEM motorcraft though) and it still required some force. I did use a new gasket (green motorcraft o-ring) which was also very thick. Proper tool, nice long breaker bar, still took some force. You know you’re there when you get the loud “pop” of it seating the lands and grooves (as nicely outlined above with perfect pictures and arrows) of the ring/tabs. I used to use the old “screwdriver/hammer” trick myself, this is the first time in 35 years I actually used the PROPER tool, and I will say, best $30 I’ve ever spent. Highly recommend to all. All said and done, I had the pump assembly finished in under 30 minutes. I’ve had a million tanks down, and this design is pretty awesome. Fastest in tank pump I’ve ever changed 😎

Probably safe to say that it won't leak. I think it's harder to install the aftermarket fuel hat because it is is slightly thicker and stiffer being aluminum vs. the OEM plastic one.
Well....it's leaking. Lol

What a PITA with this lethal fuel system.

You sure? Mine was leaking at the feed line AN fitting. I too thought it was the green O-ring under the hat, but it wasn't.

You do need to make sure that the hat is centered in the hole of the tank. There is some side to side movement available as the hat diameter isn't quite as wide as the OEM plastic one. Of course, if your Green O-ring is pinched or came out of the groove when trying to install it then yeah it could be the issue. You can put a very thin film of grease or vaseline on the O-ring which will help it stick in the groove, as well as allow for a little movement of the hat without binding

Stupid question here fellas...but uh...how much force should it take to put this lock ring on? Or am I an idiot and overlooking something? (No sleep lately so entirely possible 👍)

I am riding the struggle bus. I feel like I'm going to break something if I put any more force on the tool.

I tried a new o ring, old o ring, and petroleum jelly. I can start the lock ring by hand and everything lines up. But using the special lock ring tool and gently pushing down while using a breaker bar, it simply won't budge any further.

Indexing tab on the hat is pointed at 11 o'clock toward the "location" imprint that Ford designated. The assembly sits flush with no gaps or movement as far as I can tell. O ring isn't twisted.

Ignore the marks I put on the lock ring. The only thing that stands out to me is the scratch on the hat shown in Pic 2 at o'clock

Alot. I just did mine, used the three arm ring tool and a 36 inch breaker bar to take off and put it back on. Just make sure when you install the ring you push down and turn ring so the end is going under All locks. Good luck

I'm going through the whole fuel system. There were a couple of small leaks. Nothing cross threaded but damn, it sure isn't going to get any tighter, either!

Not impressed with Lethal as a company. This fuel kit has been a headache from day 1 and Lethal service/knowledge is about useless. The guys on the phone are about as dumb as a box of rocks, to boot.

And the cherry on top is now my allen head plug on the fuel rail is stripped. It was leaking. I went to remove it and now the head is stripped . Because it's low quality chineseum.

Haven't stripped an Allen head for 15? 20? years now and hundreds and hundreds of hours wrenching on cars....and then here comes Lethal Performance.

Never again Lethal. Never again.

Sorry to hear your experience. I just changed my fuel pump this week using the same tool. One item that might make it a bit easier and perhaps less likely to damage the green O-ring is I lubricated my O-ring with some silicone spray, front and back. Make sure ring is nicely seated in the goove, make sure the top part of the hat is seated and then use that tool and a bunch of power/torque. It will make a loud "pop" and then you're seated.

You know lethal aren't the manufacturers of that fuel kit, they just put a package together. You should be bitching about divisions

Why would a person support a business if they sold sub-par items?

Whoever made it didn't really think it out very well. Any person could sell a kit with a FPR, some rails, and then have some hose cut to length with fittings.

Lethal's lack of knowledge and customer support still stands.
These people couldn't even figure out how to connect their fuel rails with their fuel system. Not kidding. Lol

They couldn't even tell me what components I needed to run my setup.

I have to stop ranting. Lol

Agreed. I used silicone first and then vaseline hoping it would seal better. It's just a tight fit with that fuel hat assy. For whatever reason. Because the ford factory assembly pops in and out a hell of a lot easier.

What business doesn't sell DivisionX fuel rails? Sounds like a lot of user error, you built the fittings not anyone else, just like every other fuel system out there

I get how it might sound or come off over a forum/internet.

I assure you, there wasn't "a lot of user error". Not even sure which part would be user error.

We are all free to support who we want with our own money. When a company:

A) doesnt even know what parts you need for a common setup

b) can't figure out how connect their rails to their fuel system and then sends you a quote for about $400 of extra parts you dont need.

C) acts like the customer is the idiot and then later realizes that the company actually made an error...

Then, I would say that perhaps there are better alternatives. At least in my opinion. To each their own and life goes on.

Cheers

So who built the leaking fuel fittings incorrectly?

Built? Not me

Assembled? Me

The fittings on that line are as tight as they can be. They aren't cross threaded. It leaks.

Not really sure how a guy would fix that. What would YOU do? Lol

I have never seen a fuel line fitting leak after being f tightened that much either. But I get it, stuff happens.

One way or the other, I'll get it sorted out.
