For those with PP GT, how's the Torsen diff?

I found this in the owners manual for the 2013 Mustangs:

1Add 4 oz. (118 ml) of Additive Friction Modifier XL-3 or equivalent meeting Ford specification
EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok or TORSEN axles.
Ford design rear axles contain a synthetic lubricant that does not require changing unless the axle has
been submerged in water.

I'm surprised to hear any noise complaints of torsens because they are typically very quiet and great for daily driver applications.
I agree. Mine is as quiet as a church mouse. I hear nothing from it.

^The base cars Traction-LoK diff does not have ramps like the second video you posted (which is a Salisbury clutch-type LSD).
Whoops - wrong link :) Thanks for pointing that out. I updated it.

Mine chatters when it's cold like my old Detroit Locker I ran in my 9". It tells me it's working. Still pulls into a parking spot better than my spool used to. ;)

That is surprising to hear, being comprised of constantly-meshed gears (half of which are helical) I would expect no noise. Of course it could be due to Ford production tolerances, which is not necessarily bad.

It's the inside tire breaking traction, not actually the differential.

Adding friction modifier will not hurt a gear-type LSD. Adding it may quite it down a little, but will not make the same impact it does with a clutch-type LSD, to which it can make a significant impact.

"POSI"-track, is short for positive traction. It is a term from GM that has become slang for "LSD" (limited slip differential). It is typically used in regards to clutch-type LSD's, but technically can apply to any LSD. Mopar has used "Sure-Grip" to describe their LSD's.

Exactly. All the noise is from the tire slipping while turning unless there is a problem. These Torsen rears are fantastic at what they do and how quietly they do it.

Ok cool, I thought maybe you meant that, good to hear!
And it's most noticeable only when the tires are cold. Watch when I turn left onto the road, the GoPro shake during the turn is the left tire slipping or chattering.

Exactly, I don't hear any diff noise myself. The Summer tires would break the inside tire loose when cold and tight turns, but I would expect that. My A/S tires don't even do that. Nice an smooth all the time.

I love the way it grips up when exiting a corner, a very even power distribution and maintains adequate steering response.

Puts down power better than anything I've experienced. I do notice a slight tire slip when making a left turn in the morning which means it's biting nicely. I love it. No NVH that I've noticed.

I love the Torsen diff.. This thing claws out of corners or with more gas kicks out a perfect drift. I haven't done anything too crazy yet as its too cold for the tires but I'm overwhelmingly impressed.

The cold weather clunking is the tire shoulders for sure. All I ever hear is the thunk of it engaging from a stop

The Torsen diff is awesome for getting power down coming out of corners and is superior to the Limited Slip diff in that respect. Get the Torsen diff is you plan on doing a lot of cornering (road racing, autocrossing, etc.).

The Limited Slip diff excels in straight line, drag strip style launches, however, while the Torsen is not nearly as strong at the drag strip. Drag racers (like me) prefer the Limited Slip for this reason.
I don't follow this logic, a Torsen mechanically locks the 2 wheels with entirely equal power output instantly...like a locker or a spool...
The clutch type lsd requires clutches and springs to TRY to apply power equally to the driver tire but car weight, static bias, spring and clutch health, friction modifiers, and overall power the stock springs can force to the clutch area thereby transferring power to the clutch side wheel is not remotely as quick acting or 100 percent perfectly split like a spool, locker ( locked ) or torsen...making the torsen far superior in straight line especially as power goes up and time, wear and oil degradation takes an effect on the clutches and springs ability to transfer power evenly to the driver wheel.
I wonder if all the hard left nose plants are clutch type I'm researching.....
Where am I thinking wrong?
