I have always been a fan and a firm believer in manual transmissions but I have the itch to swap over to the auto trans this time around. This is mainly due to the new paddle shifter option. I have driven both the manual and the auto 2015 GT and each has its benefits.

My question is to those of you that came from previous manual mustangs and decided to go with an auto 2015 this time around. After having the car for some time now, do you regret going with the auto? My gut is telling me to go with the auto but I feel like the novelty of paddle shifters will wear off! :frusty:

I'm just the opposite. I had an auto trans in my 2006 GT and went with a manual when purchasing my 2015 GT. I regret not getting the auto. I have a love, hate, love relationship with my manual...

I went with manual because you can't get the Performance Package with auto, other than the LE. If I went with LE I would have gotten a 2LT C7.

How long did you drive the auto? If only for a short test drive I would suggest finding your nearest rental agency and picking one up for a few days. Because I've driven great autos (Porsche PDK, VW DSG, BMW's ZF8) and the 6R80 is nowhere close. It's okay, and I'm going with it because I think the MT82 is junk, but if you are a die hard manual guy, I feel like the 6R80 won't be to your liking. It is still too "slushy". But it's solid and stout, without any major reliability issues, and that's why it wins in my book.

Imo: hold off on the auto if you don't need to buy ASAP. It's just average at this point, and if anything's going to be updated in the near future, it would most likely be the transmissions.

No where close in what way? You can change the autos personality with a tune.

OP I had a MT-82 in my 2012, hated it. I went with auto this time around and have loved every second of it.
I loved the 6r80 so much, I passed up on the PP to get it. Figured it was easier to outperform the PP than to replace the MT-82.

I've never driven a stick, so I can't comment on that, but I tried using the paddle shifters once and almost caused an accident because of excessive engine breaking and just gave up. I'll let the car do the shifting, thanks.

My 2012 was an mt-82 car. At 550 rwhp, it whined louder than my blower. It was an embarrassment to drive. T-56 went it shortly after that. Still living strong at 915 rwhp.
A6 for me this time....

I had an '11 with the MT-82 and hated it for several reasons. First and foremost was the tedium of endless shifting in Bay Area traffic. I also thought the MT-82 was among the most clunky, notchy, and whiny manuals I'd ever owned. It really felt primitive to me and ultimately spoiled the car.

Long story short, I switched to the auto in my '13 and loved it. Now I've carried that choice over to the '15 and find it's even better. Still, transmission choice really is a matter of preference. Good luck with your decision.

I to converted from the MT82 in my 13 gt to the 6R80 in the 15. I have absolutely no regrets.

I didn't have many major problems with the mt82, other than occasionally being locked out of 2nd or 3rd gear during a high RPM shift and the stiff shifts when cold in the 16,000 miles I drove it.

While I wasn't hindered much by the mt82, I was NEVER impressed with it, and the 6R80 has been the exact opposite for me.

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like I just need to take an extended test drive before I make my final decision.

Absolutely, so you can feel which suites you the best, I believe if I had done that when I was buying my 2013 GT I would have ended up going with the auto then, but I was dead set on a 6 speed manual and never gave the auto a second thought.
