My car is just a base GT A10 so doesn't have all the track mode stuff so all I have is D or S on my shifter. In Drive, it's not great for low end power and it shifts really quickly out of 1st. However, in S position, it holds the gears longer even if I'm only at 1/2 throttle and if I floor it, it will chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift (I have TC on all the time) and feels a lot stronger. Of course can't expect much with 3.15 gearing in the rear, but it's nice to see that I got 29 mpg on my recent trip from SLC down to Vegas (in "D" of course, not "S").

Did the new twin intake system affect power at low rpm’s?

'87 5.0 GT had plenty of low end torque...my 1999 Cobra Conv had noticeably less LE torque..

My kids 11 Coyote Conv had huge torque .....his '16 GT 350... and My '21 Mach 1, it seems like less LE torque for sure...............but then these are not normal engines, today, in comparison.

I remember when the 4.6 came out, mine was weak on low end compared to 5.0 I had prior.

I’ve had five 22-23s and one 20. Still have the 20 GT and two 23 Mach 1s. None of them have been torque monsters under 3500 rpms but no way could you describe them as wimpy. No way. And from 3500-7500 they’ll pretty much tear your eyeballs out. I’ve never driven an older one so I can’t compare but mine run like I would have expected a small displacement 4-cam engine to run. In fact, I recently took a very car savvy buddy (has 911 turbo, Cayenne and new GT3RS) for a ride in my M6 Mach 1 with only 900 miles on the clock) and he commented that it felt noticeably stronger than any big block Corvette either of us had back in the mid-late 60s.

Here are some thoughts:

*Open up the exhaust to track mode. It’s not just psychological, you can feel the difference.

*Flip the car into dragstrip mode to do a pull.

*Completely disable Traction Control. IMPORTANT! You’d think TC would help acceleration but it’s counterintuitive. If your tires are loose it’s cutting timing. And strangely, I can’t always hear the tires spinning on this car but I can usually feel it.

Good luck!

Do you mean regular traction control or the traction system one??
Thanks Anthony

Anthony it’s early and I’m still working on my morning coffee but I’m sorry, I don’t think I quite understand your question. I guess I didn’t realize there was more than one TC. Please help me understand the difference between “regular” and the “traction system one” you‘re talking about.

Hiya,
No worries!!! lol I understand.
Yes there is regular traction control TC and ADVANCED TRACTION SYSTEM control. WHich one do you need to shut off?

Thanks Anthony

Coyotes are not 351C's nor 390's, or 429's..........all meant to get passenger cars rolling............this is a racing engine, not a cooking engine............. don; treat it as 390.

I am sure much of the old tick issue came from lugging the engines, and destroying the pistons.

Anthony, the one I’m talking about is just plain ol’ Traction Control. The off flip switch is located two switches over to the right of the start button on my 20-23 cars. I just flip it up until the off light shows on the dash. I DON’T hold it long enough to turn off Electronic Stability Control, which may be what you’re talking about when you say Advanced Traction System. I say that because a lot of guys still confusingly refer to ESC as “Advance Trac” because in years past it used to be called that. But it’s a different deal from TC and I leave it alone if I’m doing a pull.

If you do a forum search for Traction Control you better pack a lunch because you can be there for days. All I can say is opinions differ wildly as to how to use TC, what turns it completely (or partially) off and on, when to use it and so on. Since Ford never really clarifies this kinda thing you just have to believe who you will and see what works for you.

Good luck!

Looking at the Ford Performance hp/tq grqphs it appears the gen 2 and gen 3 are about equal at low rpm. Gen 2 thick dotted green line, gen 3 thin red line, scaled to (sort of) fit the torque lines but not the hp lines.
