I think it's a stupid move. A mid engine car to compete with the Corvette would have made more sense imho. And $300,000? Ridiculous. How many true Ford enthusiasts can afford that?

I see your point, I'd say a "Ford Enthusiast" is a very wide range of incomes though, mostly middle class would you say? (say yes). The pricier GT350, Mach1, GT500 are top end prices. Base GT is middle to low costs. I think the 2000 that Ford is going to create with the GTD will all sell to the top top enthusiasts. We are all witnessing the last breathe of combustion engines, true horsepower wars all over again. Once this is done, the hybrids will take over and dominate. Enjoy it why we can....

I'm curious as to how 300K is a bargain here vs the GT3RS. I mean if the car does crush the GT3RS on track maybe I'll concede there or maybe considering dealer mark up and/or availability might be playing a role here that I don't know of.
I don't want the comment to be interrupted as a smart ass comment, I'm just geniunely curious as I'll never be able to afford cars of this caliber unless I'm made of money by my retirement age.

So Ford wants to hit sub 7:00 at the nurburgring? Why do they care about that all of a sudden, but never cared enough to test the Ford GT there. Maybe they did but didn't release the times because they were dissapointing.

Ford never took the latest gen GT to the nordschleife. The only info I can find on it with the new gen are private owners like Shmee driving it on there, or the 04/05 GT that did a 7:52.
Keep in mind they built the TTV6 GT specifically to race and win at 24 Hrs at Le Mans again (I believe it was 2016 or 2017 race I can't remember when they did it). I doubt it would struggle to get close to that 7 min time.

Sorry I'm in the US, did not realize it is +$300K in CAD when you do the exchange and clearly factoring in the Dealer mark ups and availability on the US Side I would probably agree with you there.

So, I think the Mustang nameplate is throwing a lot of folks off here. This car is not built on the S650 chassis, it has zero to do with the 7th generation Mustang that is available via dealerships. This is the GT3 race car that Ford/Multimatic has to build and sell to the public in order to race at the likes of LeMans. Exactly like the Ford GT. This is for the ultra enthusiasts with boatloads of cash and connections. Think Jay Leno, Tim Allen, etc. (and others that aren’t celebrities per se but are also extremely wealthy and connected). This car would pound the Corvette into the pavement, that’s not who Ford is targeting here. They want the best in racing: Porsche, McLaren, AMG, etc. That’s who this car is going after.

There is no ADM. You can’t walk into a dealership and order one. This is by application only, you have to have a boatload of money and lots of connections to even have a chance to get one.

$241,300 is just the starting price. The Weissach Package alone is like an extra $34k. Porsche won't even let you order a base 911 GT3 RS because nobody orders them lol. The $300k is pretty fair when you compare what the GTD has as standard, the MSRP will be about the same to get a 911 GT3RS in a similar spec. Also Porsche GT3RS is the only "cheap" car in this category. The AMG GT Black Series, Huracan STO, 296 GTB all are above $300k, so the pricing is in line with the market.

I honestly don't see how anyone can realistically say that buying anyone of these cars is a bargain lol. You take a pick for what you want. Time will tell if the GTD is going to be as good as its getting hyped up to be. Will be nice if Ford can take aim at Porsche and not only set the fastest lap on Nürburgring but be the first American OEM to do so. It will be like how the R35 was the pride of Japan and wiped the floor with Porsche at Nürburgring and caused them to make the GT2 RS.

Why did they have to build it in order to race the GT3? The 650 covers that doesn't it. Does the GT3 run a trans axle?

Cause that is the rules, has to be a stock production vehicle, not a base 650 that gets a bunch of add-ons to compete. Porsche GT3 comes out the gate ready and so does the GTD.

I understand what you’re saying but there’s really not much left of the S650 once Multimatic is done with it. So, it’s not an S650 in the way the general consumer thinks of S650 if that makes sense, like a Dark Horse R. But yes, it has to start its life as something.

Agreed, but it's not a bespoke tube frame chassis or anything either. I'm assuming they'll build these alongside the GT3 cars although the GT3 cars don't actually use the cantilever inboard rear suspension as that's not FIA legal for some reason.
