Can you hold a dealer accountable on a used car?

Does the car require a State Inspection? If so most states require mufflers. And most car dealers will inspect the car before selling. If they did this then maybe you have a legal option.

This. I called out a dealer who sold me a car with bad engine mounts that they passed on inspection.

It doesn't require a state inspection. I would assume the dealer inspected the car but I can't say for certain.

Like they told me they do an oil change anytime a car is traded in. My oil life shows 60% after driving it 800 miles so I'm sure that was a lie.

I'm guessing the CEL was on when they got the car and they cleared it, knowing it would come back. But that's just another assumption on my part.

In my state as in many when you buy a used car it is automatically understood the sale is "As Is". Regardless of whether it says so or not. Caveat Emptor.

Looks like GA is the same way.

Sucks that the CEL didn't pop for 7 days. If it was triggered before I bought it, I could have avoided all this. Shady IMO, but I guess I'm screwed.

I think you'd only have a case if they sold you the car with no cats/defeated emissions equipment. For the rest, grab that active exhaust from that guy if you can, or get an aftermarket system that supports the active valves and dont look back. Be happy you didnt buy a used car with a crash or title brand history and only found out about it now.

It's one of those things where you would need to talk to a lawyer familiar with consumer protection laws for your jurisdiction, and then decide if it's worth paying a lawyer $200+ an hour to argue your case. Sure you can ask for the legal fees back in a settlement, but that is dependent on winning the case.

Personally, I'd just live with it. Post on the classifieds here looking for some AE mufflers for a Mach1 (assuming the ones that were posted for a GT don't work)

Does Ga have noise laws? If so does your car pass. I do believe any selling dealer has to make the car compliant with state and federal laws. Worth a call to an attorney IMO.

To go along with the Active Exhaust offered above, I just saw this post on the Classifieds forum for the actuators.

This is the one time I would take it to the police station and ask them if they can db meter test the noise level of the exhaust and hope it is too loud. Hinting to them to error on the too loud part .Then the selling dealership has to fix it correctly .

I was willing to live with it until the CEL came on. And that doesn't bother me except if it ever legitimately gets triggered, I may not know. If it's catastrophic then I don't want them to ask me why I kept driving on it

As near as I can tell, the Mach 1 AE is the same as a GT's AE, but double check. If that's true, you're close to being all set.

I think they're the same except for the tips. I'm hoping I can do something about that but I'll worry with that when I get to that point...
