The technical answer is yes...it can be done. It's been done in professional racing for a long time and involves bending the solid axle differential axle tubes. Unless you are professionally racing, I can't see any advantage to it for a street or sometimes track car.

Interesting thread - thanks for sharing.

What happened to your Trans Am Mustang, did you get out of the competitive sport?

I raced very seriously quite a few cars, the T/A, open wheel car, Vintage, for about 20 years ( 93 to 13) and basically reached a point where it was not fun anymore. I have not stopped going to the track, still do about 20 open tracks a year, but now it’s just for fun. No more trailer, tow truck, many sets of slick, etc, I just drive my track only,17 Mustang to and from the track
Sold the Roush in 2013

That's really cool that you had the opportunity to not only procure such a vehicle, but also compete and have that type of extreme fun. I can see that after so many years it probably could get cumbersome and/or "bored" so to speak.

Any pics of the interior of the Mustang T/A?

How many events could you do before needing an engine rebuild?

Did you get to meet Jack Roush at all or see his extensive collection?

Thanks for your interest
I have attached a few more pictures
For sure it was a very expensive car to run with extensive maintenance
The valves springs were supposed to be changed after every race but i put some with a bit less lift, at the cost of a few hp/rpms and was able to stretch it to 20 yours
Basically the engine and tranny, Hewland narrow gears, needed to be open and checked/rebuild every 30 hours or roughly every year for me
Was a fantastic car that had so many neat engineering features such as cockpit adjustable sway bars, etc
Regrettably I never got to meet Jack Roush
