Oh crap, glad you can write about it. I would delete this thread and not discuss anything on Social media, this site, nothing.

Just saying.

Prayers with you.
I think these are very wise words Al and I’d consider them carefully.

Im so glad you’re here to make this post and hope you’re behind the wheel again before you expect.

So, the Mach 1 is not getting driven now for some time due to an accident.

Luckily, the accident was not in the Mach 1.

Unluckily it was on the motorcycle.

Luckily I lived, and was not my fault.

Unluckily, I Cannot walk for 3-6 months, with an unknown lvl of permanent loss of function at this time.

Luckily, my 86 Bronco is an auto, that I should be able to left foot drive and place my broken side (right) into the center console area since there is that big open area in center below dash, just the T-Case lever there.

Ankle currently has a X-Fix on it. I can place a pic of mine, or you can just good 'ankle x fix' for an idea. this is for a couple of weeks until another surgery, and at that point they will have a slight idea on what my capabilities afterwards will be, and how long to get there.

Bike is totaled, I've spent 6 days in hospital so far, another few coming up with second surgery. luckily I have at least 140k medical available through their insurance and my underinsured. Officer put in report that it was 100% on the car driver, that I motorcycle has no opportunity to slow significantly or evade.

I am going to get the car professionally detailed, then have it brought to my dad's house and put it in his garage. Do need to find the historical flood level there (new construction) and make sure it is well above that.

Not sure if I will ride again. or at least before the kid is out of the house. I want to, but this puts into how close even a 'minor' low speed accident can be to being fatal. I flew over the cars hood and hit my head on landing. also nearly broke my other ankle and both wrists. they're still very difficult to use with minor hairline fractures and massive bruising. entire left calf is bruised.
Glad you’re out the other side. After my slide out no more bikes for me.
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Bikers are not safe with today's drivers and I am glad that you able tell your story.

So sorry to hear about the accident. After a couple of close calls a few years ago I sold my Honda Goldwing. Occasionally think about another one, but with todays distracted drivers am very hesitant. Hope the recovery goes well and you're able to enjoy the Mustang again soon!

Sorry to hear this. Baddd, but could have been even worse!! I rode motorcycles most of my life — great times with great friends all over the country and hundreds of thousands of miles. Really bad accident ten years ago and I thought I would die alone down an embankment, out of sight and no cell signal. But miraculously someone caught a glimpse of my bike and an amazing surgeon put the pieces back together. It took a few years, but I did ride again, but I’m getting up in years with a few medical issues and decided that four wheels better than two. Sold the bike last June and now greatly enjoy my Mustang convertible!

Hope you heal completely!!

Wow, sorry to hear BUT glad you are alive for sure! Hang in, don't get discouraged and keep being positive. You'll pull through this no doubt.

Was the accident due to an inattentive driver?

As for the car, it will be perfectly fine for 6mos, even a year without actually driving it. If you can or with the help of someone else, just start it every other week, it will be totally fine.

My 94 Cobra is taken out for local car shows and the occasional weekend drive. It sees less than 5000 miles per year (if that at all).

It is parked in the garage, with fully inflated tires, 1/4 tank of fuel and the battery on a battery tender 24/7. I've never had an issue with tires flat spotting or even starting the vehicle when it's been stored as it is - and it's been like this now since approx 2007. As long as the vehicle is started and driven every so often, there's absolutely no issue with "parking it" and letting it rest for a few months or even a year.

What you DO want to do, is get yourself a Battery Minder or Tender - NOT a charger.

I’m using this exact unit (and do note it is this specific model for my use because I do have an Optima Red Top battery):
https://www.batteryminders.com/1510-12-volt-maintenance-charger-desfulator-with-warranty

Put it this way, I use it on my 94 Cobra 24/7/365… I posted another thread here a while back that the original Optima battery I had purchased for my Cobra lasted 15 years and it was maintained by that Battery Minder device.

If you don’t use a vehicle or battery for quite some time, you can’t go wrong with a “tender” or “minder” device. They are completely safe to leave on long term. If the battery is in a vehicle, you disconnect the vehicle’s battery cables and attach the tender/minder cables to the battery terminal posts. Both a Tender and Minder state to remove the battery from the vehicle, but I’ve always left the battery in and never had any issues.

IF the vehicle is stored in an area that might have the possibility of rodents - be sure to put traps or deterrent around the perimeter of the vehicle AND at garage entries such as the corners of the main garage doors where rodents can squeeze under.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, I'm glad you made it!

I clipped a deer in the fall of 2009 and thanks to full riding gear I was only down a few days, but every time I ride it pops into my mind. Riding at dusk, dawn, or at night is out of the question. And I rarely ride into the city anymore due to so many terrible drivers. I currently have four bikes in the stable and think about thinning the herd more and more the older I get.

Sorry to hear that, and hopefully recovery is smooth. It could be an overnight heart attack, a shower slip or a motorcycle accident, tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone.

Agreed with a previous post - you never know who is reading what, nor for what reason. You shared not so much detail, though we also don't know what type of litigation you are currently in or may enter. Better safe than sorry to delete this, though it's on the Internet and is forever.

Secondly, from a reluctant "cager", I'm so thankful you're still here with us. Riding is one of my most favorite things I can do and I call it, "the last freedom", since there's barely any electronics to keep you safe regarding power vs. weight, no airbags, no reinforced whatever, no seatbelt, no anything basically. Thankfully I only crashed once, on my own, at like 15mph over a curb. I did an endo and rode right back home.
...miraculously someone caught a glimpse an amazing surgeon put the pieces back together.
On that note, my younger years were rather ridiculous given my career choice. I married a surgeon. Thank Heavens for that someone that saw something and called it in. They're the cherry lifesaver in the bag.
It could be an overnight heart attack, a shower slip or a motorcycle accident, tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone.
Was just talking about that exact thing two separate times today with two separate people. It's wild how we go crazy planning and making sure things are perfect for what we want, and the plan ain't ours.

OH MAN! Wishing you a quick and complete recovery. You have lived my nightmare scenario. I rode for several years and became increasingly uncomfortable with all the distracted driving going on around me. Like you said, there are no "small fender benders" when you're on a bike. I sold the bike, and replaced it with my convertible Mustang GT. Yikes. Get well soon.
