Short throw shifter: street vs race

The Steeda Tri-ax race shifter is a good shifter, but after the SN95 platform, they no longer have stop bolts that can be adjusted to prevent bending or breaking shift forks. You will have to address thst internally with billet aluminum shift forks.

Knowing what I know about the MT82 tranny and shifters, I wouldn’t swap out the factory one for a short lever only. To firm things up a bit, you can add the Steeda shifter bracket with poly bushing and a transmission bushing insert.

No. You could still overextend the shift lever and damage the forks. That was the first thing I noticed when I installed a Barton in my 2013 GT. The shifter would need to have bolts in front and back of the shift lever as seen here in this pic. You would put the car in 3rd gear and 4th gear, adjust the two stop bolts accordingly, lock down the jam nuts and you‘d be all set to bang gears.

The MGW for the 3160 still mounts to the body.

The MGW for the MT82 mounts to the transmission.

hmmm…. So they’ve upgraded for the 82 but not for the 3160. I wonder if that’s in the works? Iirc the Barton shifter . may bolt to the transmission.

where I deposit most of my money, lol, the owner has been racing and selling cars and car parts since the fox body came out. He won’t sell me anything I don’t need. And he is in the business of making money right? Now if I tell him I really want it then he will. So when I told him I couldn’t handle the truck shifter in my car, he said well, if you are not gonna race or pull quarter miles ever weekend then this is all you need. So I went with the street one and i love it. And I saved my money to give it to him later

Don’t forget to consider the Whiteline transmission bushing insert too. It’ll help stiffen up the drivetrain even more.

I have the MGW race spec and it was worth every penny. It doesn't make the car faster, but you mess with the shifter every time you drive the car, so it's a great place to spend money to improve the driving experience.
