Hi all,

Looking to possibly swap out my stock shifter on my 18 gt, and am debating which direction I want to go. I am looking at the steeda street shifter and the steeda or mgw race shifter. Here's the deal. I do not race or track the car. I just like having short crisp shifts. My favorite manuals were on the s2000 and sn95 mustang with a triax. I

So basically, is the race really necessary for someone like me who doesn't have 2-3 shift issues and really just wants short shifts?

Thanks for your input!

MGW is the only option lol. doesn't matter how you are using it but it improves all around driving

the full tilt boogie bracket for $100 bucks does wonders. But if you want to spend $600 on shifter have at it. The stock shifter isn't that bad once you mount it to the trans.

Thanks for the responses. I am ok with adding a bracket to the mix as well.

The short throw shifter is on par with the painted calipers. Totally unnecessary, with no real benefit.

As mentioned the only problem with the Mustang shifter is it mounts to the body.

I'm definitely not looking at this as a performance enhancement or improvement in acceleration. It's just an improved feel for myself.

I went with the Steeda Tri-ax street and shifter base bushing bracket. The shifter has no play in it at all now.

It wont be the same as a Tri-ax on a TR-3650. Then again the shifters in the SN9s were in a awkward position. I had to use an adjustable adaptor on the tri-ax in my SN95s just to get it a better shifting position.

Ahh yup and that’s the problem.

I have the Steeda Race Shifter. It gives you the option of installing soft springs or firm springs. It also comes with a beefy rear bracket and polyurethane bushing. To do the install with minimal fuss will require removing the driveshaft, whereas the street shifter will be an easier install.

I had the Triax Street shifter Installed in my Bullitt a couple of months ago. it is extremely tight and short. The shifts a vert precise and direct and I really cannot see what any other device will give you over this one. Relatively cheap and easy to install and remove if you don’t like it. Personally I am in 2 minds on whether I am going to keep it as the added effort required to shift gears has taken away the smoothness, but I have decided that I won’t do any thing until the end of the year to see if it has grown on me. My stock shift was pretty tight and short so nothing wrong with it but all the glowing reviews made me think it would be a good idea to add the short shifter.

The Steeda Tri-ax race shifter is a good shifter, but after the SN95 platform, they no longer have stop bolts that can be adjusted to prevent bending or breaking shift forks. You will have to address thst internally with billet aluminum shift forks.

Knowing what I know about the MT82 tranny and shifters, I wouldn’t swap out the factory one for a short lever only. To firm things up a bit, you can add the Steeda shifter bracket with poly bushing and a transmission bushing insert.

Ok so it sounds like the street is a good option, but should really be paired.with the steeda shifter bracket as well?
