Yes having the ability to go to a track will definitely help. Unfortunately, they are shutting down the only drag strip near me, and since I can't find any place that will offer insurance at a drag strip not much of an option for me anyway... Need to have a dedicated drag car haha.
I know what you mean. We have about a million people on this island yet they shut down the track some years ago and they wonder why there's so much racing on the freeways, etc. Interestingly, our neighbor islands that have maybe 15% of our population at best all have NHRA tracks; Big Island, Maui & Kauai. No wonder there's racing on Oahu's streets.

Ya we need to keep tracks and offer insurance solutions. Make it convenient for people to race on the track and strip vs the street

As someone who is familiar with US licensing vs. Europe, you have to be brain dead to fail a US drivers license test. In addition, you obviosuly don't have to have any parenting skills to create a child, which many do not have anyway. As the old saying goes, "a man (and woman) has got to know their limitations", which also many people do not know.

The result is what we see here, frequently.

I always loved that quote from Clint Eastwood in his "Dirty Harry" movies...

I agree regulation rarely works and I won't say a horsepower limit but a skill level. Just like I don't believe the vast majority of 80/90 year olds should be driving either. As long as you can tell which way the light flashes and hear a beep you get your license here in Ohio. Would love to see a 90 year old have to make an evasion maneuver at 65 mph on freeway to avoid a crash. Bet it wouldn't happen. Whos to say a 16 year old is any better though 🤷‍♀️
Handling is absolute rubbish in these cars once you crack triple digit speeds.

I can imagine, I have been in several new Hummer EVs and the WTF launch is insane but once you get to like 40 mph that fast feeling starts to drop off. Would not even think about trying to get one to handle at 100 plus lol

Sorry. Not 150mph. 150mph head on, and there would be vaporization of everything and ZERO survivors.
Absolutely was 150mph the wrong way in a 55mph zone. The engine of the mustang escaped and debris was scattered for two blocks. Road was closed for nearly half a day.

I went throught that intersection about 2 hours prior to the event.
Woke up to a bunch of phone calls because people just heard "White Mustang at 51 & Country Club".

I think a HUMONGOUS problem is video games (shooting, driving) that shape or alter kids' perception of reality.
Nobody really dies, just hit "reset" and start again.

The fucktard driving the Mustang had no clue about consequences. He's likely "on the spectrum", retarded, or was high on God-knows-what. He took human lives.
Best thing for society would be to euthanize him.
Yea I'm going to hard disagree with the video game part. Almost nobody does what they do in video games, in real life. I played GTA and racing games growing up and to this day I've never raced anyone nor have I gone and robbed a store. Its not the games its the parents and the parents only. I'm so tired of the "violent video games are the problem" argument, it has no ground to stand on.

This. people act like youth don't understand games are entertainment, not reality. before this it was books of witchcraft, before that it was music, and movies. Come on.
These yoyo's are the ones that said, kids playing with toy guns playing cops and robbers, cowboys and ingines, or summer water gun fights, was going to turn us all in to killers.
Guess it is easier to blame entertainment media than look at the real causes in the mirror.
Funny or sad depending. back when kids played cowboys and ingins, cops and robbers, etc. we didn't have school shooting and mass shooting at movies, shows, or the mall.
Go fig?

It always, always falls back on the parents and how the kid was raised. If you teach your kid values, they will hold onto them. If your kid grows up seeing dad hit mom, there's going to be some deep scars there that will come out one way or another.

this is sad but unfortunately will be repeated over and over. many of us are old timers now, but which of us didnt drag/street race someone at some point when we were 18? its part of the psychology of being that age, i think. not sure if there is an answer, really.

I wouldn't know as I haven't done that because I don't have anywhere here to legally hit triple digit speeds and I'm not stupid or immature enough to do so on public highways.

I believe in my original post I did mention Kauai as the last outer island on my list.

And, If the child grows up being brainwashed by what passes for teachers (not all teachers) there is enough damage to cause them to become the strangest assets in our society. Most parents in the past 50 or so years have viewed the school system as a baby-sitting service and never checked up on them. Then "The Covid" hit and Mom's especially, found out what Junior and Sissy were being taught in school. Well Holy Sh*t! now we have problems. Was it the teachers? Was it the parents? Was it the desire to have the big house with a pool and two Mercedes and BMW's for the kids?

Well, I don't know and I ain't layin' blame. But if you think about it seriously you just might come to some conclusions that run a bit perpendicular to what you believe to be the truth. Blame what you want. But in the end just accept that it all boils down to personal responsibility. And by that, I mean that we are all responsible for ourselves and, at least until your kids are out from under your roof, you are responsible for them.
