I received an install quote from a reputable shop in NJ $179/hr. which I found to be just silly. top of that 24 hours to install the Whipple, LMAO

If you ran a business like that you wouldn‘t last long. Your labor rate is probably low, guess’n it’s a minimum $150/hr, labor time is low, shop supplies, gross receipts tax, etc. In the mark up is general liability insurance, garage keepers insurance, workmans comp, etc. The actual costs to run a business get pretty high pretty quick.

That's straight up robbery. I actually got a little angry when I saw that "$25k".

Do the work yourself. If you think you can't, find a friend who can help you. If you can't find a friend to help, then do the research yourself and practice until you're comfortable.

Also, I see you have a 2021 Mach 1. You could sell the car and with the sale proceeds plus the $25k you'd be in GT500 territory. Good luck.

Guess depends on where you live most shop rates are 80-110 here.

Most shops should be able to perform the task faster than what the book is that’s where the money is.

There is no book on a FI installation and custom parts. And, the last thing any one should want is somebody rushing on an install that can possibly cause catastrophic failure and worse, injury. Me, had a body shop for years. I completely understand book rates and production. No shop owner that wants to be around long term will operate on beating flagged time and giving discounts. It’s a recipe for disaster. Both for the shop owner and the customer.

My Procharger stage 2 was 9100 install is 1500, Fore fuel system 2300 install is 1450, OPG 400 and install Is about 1100, dyne tune about 1300, long tubes 2500 install probably 1000. I think 25k is too much. About 8k too high IMO. Ask George for a written estimate. Where did you get 25k from?

An emailed quote directly from George. The feedback from this thread has me increasingly concerned that he’s given me the go away price.

I got a quote for install of OPG/CS, Procharger Stage II, Fore fuel system, injectors, long tube headers, catback, lowering springs, and loading of baseline Lund tune from three different Dallas area shops. All three quoted $2800 - $3200 for installation. So if you can get all of the parts yourself plus the labor for less than $25k, they are definitely overcharging. If you talk with @beefcake he can most likely get you all of those parts for *much* cheaper. Also, if you really want to save some coin, pay for the stuff you can't do and try installing the Procharger yourself. It's the easiest of all FI setups to install.

I’ve gotten quotes for more that 28-3k for the procharger install alone! All those hours of labor ? Doesn’t make sense at all what a joke. I shopped around I bought all these parts no shop is gonna install all of that for 3k.

Everyone has a different perspective when it comes to money and value. How much is your own time worth?

I tend to be on the side of the neurotic/obsessed where I'm not really trying to save money (I'm going to spend as much as I can) but I'm trying to squeeze the budget to get MORE modifications.

If you're in that boat or you simply want to save a buck, you can carve this up and do it for much less than $25k.

But to some people there's a value in dropping off the car, handing them the keys and then picking it up in a few days. I must admit, there's an appeal there. And depending on how solid they stand behind their work, when you take it on it's maiden voyage and it has any problems, you drive it back, hand them the keys and say fix it. There's value there too.

Of the things discussed, the only thing that's pretty advanced in terms of mechanical installation is the Oil Pump Gears and Crank Sprocket. Installing those themselves isn't all that difficult, but there's real risk in ensuring you can time a VVT Coyote correctly. If you don't do it correctly, not only will you have to tear it all apart and do it again, you risk hurting something seriously.

The headers are a pain in the ass, especially if you don't have a lift, but can be done, especially if you have good friends willing to work for some beer and food. A couple of guys can knock it out in an afternoon on jackstands in a driveway.

The centri install is pretty easy, it'll be a little time consuming if you've never walked through it before but of all the power adders, centri setups are the easiest.

So I'd say, if you want to put another $10k toward more parts/mods, buy the materials yourself, pay a shop to do the OPG/Headers (probably around $2k total) and then install the rest yourself. Have a reputable tuner tune it ($800-$1200). You'll have $10k more to either spend on something else or buy more mods.

OR you can just hand them the keys and sleep soundly and not worry about a thing. Brenspeed has done a ton of car builds and they seem to know what they're doing.

There's no wrong answer, just different perspectives as to what's valuable to each person. There's plenty of videos on line to help you through installing any of it and with a little investment in tools (that you can use later) not only will you have more money for mods, but you'll know and understand your car.
