Ecoboost to GT Regrets? Tips/Suggestions?

That's great to hear! Aside from an exhaust, my plans are only cosmetic for now. When the day comes that I can have multiple cars again, then I'll make this my project car and maybe experiment a little more. In the meantime, it'll be the most powerful car I've owned to date, so I'm perfectly content just enjoying that as it is for a while.

If it helps at all, I came super close to getting the HPP right around the time when everything started shutting down in 2020. When they were being heavily discounted still. When the HPP was introduced, my initial thought was, adding magneride to this would be awesome, and getting the better internals from the RS would be even cooler! I ultimately didn't do it for reasons I've alluded to earlier in the thread. It was all financial; I didn't need to do it and I didn't think the extra money spent would make sense for me. Especially given how much I've loved my EB. Now, part of what has impacted my decision 2+ years later is my situation. Working in finance, there are a lot of jobs out there now that can be mostly remote for me. So I no longer have to have something that gets 30 mpgs because I no longer have the need to drive everyday. I also just moved to NC in August, the furthest south I've ever lived, and I recognize winters won't be as harsh as I've seen in the past. Even when they are, from what I'm told, everything shuts down here, so I wouldn't have to go anywhere anyway. Other things I considered included the fact that the coyote is known to be pretty reliable from what I understand, I definitely wanted a V8 even if it was going to be a 2nd car down the road, and I like the S550 more than the S650. So if there was going to be a time for me to get a new one, now is it for me. I am blessed to be in a financial position where it's feasible (despite that being the hardest part for me to come to terms with), so I went for it and put in my order. I don't know how much of this may resonate with you, but hopefully it can prove to be helpful with whatever you decide.

It actually resonates quite a bit. I am also fortunate that I don’t need to commute daily (but do seem to need to drive somewhere almost daily). Our other driver is an suv so it’s nice having one car with decent gas mileage. I also live in the south and yeah if there’s snow or ice they aren’t equipped to handle it and everything shuts down. I imagine parts of NC in the mountains might be a different story.

So anyway I could see the mpg being the one thing I may regret. Haven’t made up my mind yet. For me it’s between EB Premium HPP vgs GT premium with active exhaust so like a 5k difference up front/higher payment. I also want a 23 not a 24. I enjoy getting around 400 miles a tank a gas. I also enjoy the way I drive. I may have to sacrifice something with the GT.

its funny how ecoboost owners compare handling between the eb and the gt lol… like it’s a gt3rs vs carrera s…

Alright, I'm an analyst by day, so I'll approach this with you the way I do with those I mentor in the finance world. I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but support your conclusion. What is "everything" that you have read that brings you to the conclusion that "people get the ecoboost just because it's cheaper"?

most of the reasons are always “cheaper up front”, “saving on gas”, “having to fill the tank less” blah blah blah…

the “handling” is just an exaggerated excuse because there is no massive difference nor advantages over the gt… won’t even touch something like a mach 1.

it’s ok to say you got the car because you like the looks and you don’t care about the bigger engine just because you like the looks… that’s why chevy, dodge and ford, offer smaller engine options for their cars. It’s not like the EB is like the new C63 amg where the 4 cyl turbo/hybrid is the upgrade from the previous V8TT

I have nothing against the Ecoboost, but to be quite honest, the Coyote is an absolute gem of an engine for a car in this price range. From how it sounds to what you can do with it, it's just wonderful really. A lot for your money. Every time I get to unleash it and feel that smooth power curve, my testosterone levels max out for the day.

just because you are ignorant about the differences that are clearly observable when you own both and drive them back to back, doesn't make the rest of us crazy.

the Mach 1 that I 'borrowed" for 15 miles was not something I would praise to the moon. I"m VERY glad I didn't get sucked into the hype for +30k. That 30 grand is instead going into an Ecoboost as a 2nd car.

Those of you who think there is but one god and his name is spelled Coyote (or Voodoo) can kindly shove off. I'll grant you the vast majority of EB owners picked it because they could save $6000 on the purchase price. But some of us are on a whole higher level of discernment. K?

I've done shit in a 1983 Rabbit GTI (with, what? 90 HP?) that is so far beyond the realm of irresponsible I've stopped being ashamed and just happy that I'm still around. I had banzai runs in my old Fox from 100 years ago that were just dumb. There's not much which gets your attention more than the tail wagging the dog in one of those in a 4th gear corner with bald 215 TRX's. If I were to guess, I'd say ~200 HP to the wheels?

Big horsepower is fun to play with. I don't think anyone would argue that point. But, big horsepower is not some sort of prerequisite to have a good time in your car. Usually, big horsepower just makes the sudden stop at the end cost more.

I'm completely playing in all these exchanges. I'll talk shit all day, but I genuinely don't care what anyone drives. Pick what you want and go have fun. At the end of the day, that's really what we're all looking to do.

Some do, some don't, so not cool to generalize. Me? I just thought it would be fun to mess around with a 4-cylinder turbo. It really is a nice, fun car. I had no interest in a V8.

Well, maybe. It's certainly fair to point out that plenty of people get the EB because it's the Mustang they can afford. There's definitely a big group of people that fall into that category. But, I think it's a bit of an over-generalization to suggest it's the only reason. Plenty of people have no interest in a V8, but want a cool car. So when you start comparing turbo-4s, you've definitely got to include the EB in that conversation. And in there, nowhere does the thought of the V8 come up. That's really who the HPP was designed for. Not those that want the GT but can't afford it. Heck, you even prove it's not simply about the money by saying, "it’s ok to say you got the car because you like the looks and you don’t care about the bigger engine just because you like the looks." You didn't even mention financial reasons in that statement. And that is a reason for a lot of non-V8 Mustang owners. Consider what several people have mentioned in this thread alone who have compared the HPP to the GT when making their decisions. No one is suggesting the HPP is some bargain, that's been a big point of emphasis for the GT actually. Usually the argument is, "well I can get a GT for only slightly more than an EB how I'd build it." And those people typically spend the extra money. But, in the turbo-4 segment, the HPP is priced competitively and the EB in general is plenty of fun for a daily commute, throwing anyone's budget out the window. And, while I understand you're using hyperbole, I don't think anyone is trying to suggest the EB is the upgraded motor over the coyote. Just that it's plenty of motor to have a good time in a cool car.
