Bullitt AE is different than the GT in sounds and tuning, so wondering what (other than looks) it would do for sound.

From what I gathered, the Bullitt mid-pipe suitcase was different to change the sound along with different AE tuning, but the muffler internals were the same as the GT (just with black nitro plated tips).

I almost wonder if the Mach1 had both the Bullitt mid-pipe and different muffler internals as well.

Would really be interesting to get an answer on the differences between all 3 internals.
As stated though a cheaper go loud solution is the crossover pipe change.

I wonder how they activate the valves. I have factory installed AVE in my GT/CS and can activate through the main display (400A analog unit) or toggle switch. I have the option to set to quiet mode (programmable in display based on time of day) and revert to normal after preset. I can also toggle from normal to sport + and track via switch. I would think the display would need some type of programming to access the new features.
I'm confused; what are the new features? It seems to be the same system, just different mufflers.

This kit is not an upgrade for cars that don't have AE, it's a direct replacement for cars that already have AE.

Definitely not worth the price, IMO. The standard GT AE already sounds great, and there are cheaper aftermarket options if you want a different sound.

Will it fit? Yes. Will it be functional? No.

Your car has to have the correct specific wiring harness dropouts at the rear (plenty didn't get them) and your control unit would need to be reprogrammed to activate the feature. Unless you want to go with aftermarket electronics for it.

Ah, so with this kit you get all the rear-end goodies that separate the Mach1 from the GT. But you need to have AE as a feature already on your GT.

You get this https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-5200-ACT1:

  • Kit includes:
  1. Mach 1 mufflers with quad exhaust tips
  2. Mach 1 rear lower valance
  3. Mach 1 diffuser
  4. Mach 1 mud flaps
  5. All necessary hardware to complete installation

I'd definitely look into the exhaust just to get the bigger better looking tips, not a fan of the tips on the car now and haven't been able to find an economical solution.
Same. I can care less for any gains but rather for the look of the Mach 1 exhaust. I personally wouldn't want to mimic a Mach 1 by any means. I feel like adding the valence would be too much for my taste. Its a different story if the Mach 1 valence is needed for clearance.

I personally have just slid on some eBay tips for the time being. This was my economic solution. I believe i spent around $100 and sure beats the look of the stock AE exhaust.

Good question. Do you need the valance for the bigger tips or will they fit in the 18+ with no modifications? If they’ll fit without the upgraded valance, I’d be willing to buy just the mufflers with the bigger tips.
I would like to do the same but when I priced out the mufflers alone it was a bout the same price as the whole kit. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

Hmm that seems odd. I’ll try taking a look later this evening. Not that the GT tips are small but I like the bigger tips on the Mach and the GT500.

True on aftermarket alternatives. I went Borla S Type and it's impressive.

That does look a lot nice than the stock tips. Why couldn’t have Ford done some nice rolled tips for these cars. It can’t cost that much more considering they have access to them via the FP by Borla kits…

Love the S Type. I just can’t justify paying $X for the active exhaust then dropping another $Y on a full catback. At least not right now LOL…

Guys,

I first had the active exhaust. I wanted more sound so I replaced the mid-pipe with the FORD performance x Pipe and it made a nice difference. After awhile, I wanted even more sound, so I bought the BORLA ATAK with chrome for $2k. If I can do it all again, I would just have the active exhaust with the FORD performance x-pipe. The only part I do not like on the BORLA ATAK is when I gun it or floor it, the sound is too high pitched and raspy. To each their own:)

The ATAK does get a little raspy and it’s too loud for my liking. The S Type is a little throatier and while it can get loud when you get on it, it’s not over the top. At least to me.
