Looking to get my first jack and stand set up for the S550, having jeeps and trucks all my life.

I’ve come up with an 18” lift 3 ton steel jack with a 3.5” min height to handle it being lowered someday,

But after looking at race ramps wheel cribs it seems like the 10” crib + the 6 inch height from bottom of wheels to bottom of chassis seems like a winning combo for front end lifts for oil and basic maintenance. And 4 for bigger projects like exhaust seems ideal.

Anyone using them and moved past jack stands?

I use both. Depends what I’m doing. These are cribs I made. There’s actually 8 sections. 2 stacked under each wheel.

I've used these 10" wheel cribs from Race Ramps for a couple of years. They're not cheap, but work great, are easy to set up and store out of the way.

I typically use them for oil changes, but also used to install/remove a cat-back exhaust on my GT. There is plenty of room to move around under the car with the 10" cribs.

Nice. Simple and cheap.
At the time I think it cost me around $21.00 and about 1hr to make them. Getting the car up on them is the tedious part.

You can't really move past unless you're doing the most basic of all basic maintenance. Any suspension work you need at least jackstands. This is something that you would have in addition to, not to replace them - for the cases when you need suspension loaded - at home alignment, tightening suspension fasteners if you still have rubber bushings in a control arms, removing preload from sway bars. I'm using 4 cheap Rhino oil change ramps for that purpose, slightly less convenient, much cheaper.

I've got a few of the Race Ramp cribs and love them, but jack stands have their place too.

But if I need a car in the air high enough to move around under freely, I feel much safer with the tires on cribs. Even so, there's always a jack in place. I knew someone who was crushed to death under a car cutting corners with safety.
