I definitely appreciate all the replies and the picture of the car is gorgeous. I will probably end up ordering it unless the dealer can make a deal that is just too good to pass up!

I think when you order its hard to negotiate price comparing to grabbing something on the lot.
With that being said, Mustangs are so popular, there is alway something on the lot that meet your requirement.
I 100% disagree. I'd say its even easier to negotiate when you're ordering.

When you're buying a car off the lot, they have some power over you since they have a car you might not be able to find at any other dealer reasonably close.

When you're ordering, your local dealership is an easily replaceable cog in a the wheel and you hold all the marbles. You can go to ANY dealer in the country to order, and they know that. They make money if they help you, someone else surely does if they don't.

Those fade stripes look ok, but I think I like solid black on the magnetic better. Solid stripes are pretty easy to apply after the fact (not worth a premium).

FWIW, 10 weeks wait will go fast. I've ordered before (Mazda: 16 week wait) and it was well worth it. This time I found a Mustang with nearly exactly what I wanted so I picked it up locally. It was on it's way to the local dealership's lot so I ended up waiting like 7 days and nearly died from anticipation. However, I kinda did want a car with Recaros, and it bothers me a little that I didn't get them :)

But remember that the dealership is typically eating interest on a bank loan that is keeping inventory on the lot. It appears somewhere around $5 to $10 per day per car.

If it sits long enough the holdback just barely covers the interest.

There is surely an interest to sell the inventory on the lot even at a discount. It's costing them profit on that vehicle.

The vast majority of dealers take out loans to build their inventory and are essentially "renting" the vehicles. Most manufacturer's provide this financing, known as "floorplan", and that's not all - they also reinburse dealers for this cost through a kickback known as holdback (usually 1 - 3% of the invoice price of the vehicle).

A typical dealer may pay $350 per month to finance each vehicle. If it takes two months to sell, their cost is $700 - but the holdback amount usually covers this. If a dealer sells the vehicle in less than a month, they will make a tidy profit simply on the holdback amount.

But we're just getting started. Let's assume the dealer sells a vehicle within 30 days of delivery and makes a profit of $600 on the purchase price of the vehicle. Their financing cost will be $350, but they will be reimbursed $700 for the holdback, plus they may get an additional $250 kickback in the form of a manufacturer-to-dealer incentive.

When you add the $600 profit to the holdback and other incentives, the dealer has made a total profit of $1,200 and they only had to put up $350. That's more than a 300% return on their investment in less than 30 days.

I ordered mine: premium with ceramic interior, big wheels, no PP. I'm quite happy without the PP. I'm using the PP money to install a new shifter, as I believe that's a weak point of the car. I have no plans to track the car, so most of the PP stuff would have been a waste of money for me, and I wanted a GT-style smooth ride. If I change my mind, I can always add PP parts if I want or just trade for a GT350.

BTW, the K-brace was included on mine and I added a Steeda strut tower brace mostly for the look. A Mustang is similar to a Harley in that you can leave it stock or mod it as you wish. The problem living in SoCal is that we have CARB requirements, and cars are tested every two years, so we can only install performance mods with an EO designation.

I've special Ordered 5 Mustangs and 1 Windstar since 1994. What I ordered each time would not have been found on a dealer's lot.

I did buy 2 Dodge Grand Caravans off the lot, but they were base models equipped with the desired packages and colors we could live with.

Ordering is the way to go, but you need to have patience !!

Here is a thread of the Factory over-the-top racing stripes and there is at least one pic of Magnetic with the black stripes in there ...

I was about ready to order when I found what I was looking for on a lot that was within a 2 hour drive. I had looked a long time before I found it.
I also second getting the PP. I use mine as a daily driver and that was one of the options that was on my checklist.

PP is worth every penny and will help with resell - GTPP is the most desirable option in the aftermarket. The cost of the package is 2-3x cheaper than actually doing it yourself. Ford is losing money! I wouldn't worry about stripes, you can get cheaper and better ones in the aftermarket. I probably wouldn't worry about Premium either. The Premium cars lose value more than base model, and the S550 base models are actually amazing compared to the Premium S197.

I ordered because I could not find the exact car I wanted. Dealer was easy and they gave same deal as a car sitting on their lot. It took 6 weeks to the day from order to delivery......unless you can't stand to wait, it's a no brainer to get exactly what you want.

If a buyer is worried about resale, then he or she should definitely check out the residual value of various options and make sure they order them.

When someone says a particular option is worth it, what they're really saying is that it is worth it to them. Others might find the same option useless or even undesirable.

I didn't want the adaptive cruise control, but it was the only way I could get rain-sensing wipers, so I took it. I haven't used it yet, but it is a novelty watching the HUD LEDs come on when approaching cars stopped in a left turn lane.
