Wanted to ask a question. Currently looking to order a 2022 GT Mustang. My question is should I spend the money for the active exhaust, or take that money and do a axle back or cat back system? I want a good sound, not too loud. If I go with axle back or cat back what would be the best option?

Mine came with active exhaust. I did not order it, it just happened to be on the one I chose. I love the ability to run quiet. I think sport and track are loud enough for me, but quiet is really great to have when you want it. If you want the flexibilty its worth it. I could live without it if I needed to utilize that money elsewhere. I have no advice on any aftermarket exhaust to share.

Can you really tell a difference in the sound with the different settings?

I ordered mine with AVE. I really like it. I have it programmed to start quiet between midnight and 9am. After 9am it automatically changes to normal. For me, normal sounds great and I hardly use sport or track. I'm not looking to attract any more attention than necessary.

Absolutely. Quiet mode is awesome when you want to be courteous to your neighbors. Track mode is nice when you want to hear that visceral sound. The only thing missing is side exhaust like the Boss 302 had. I think the Ford 5.0 sound is the best sounding V-8 ever. There is nothing like backing into the garage with the exhaust in Track mode, shifting into Park and giving it one last rev before shutting her down. It never gets old.

I actually wanted this as a must-have part for my 2021.

I had to order from a dealership 3 provinces over and spend the money to have it shipped as nobody in Ontario had Active Exhaust + 401a + Magneride and in the colour I wanted.

There is a reason to have this feature!

Since my car parks in a garage, in the townhouse I'm in, my neighbours can hear the start-up even in quiet mode. Trust me, having the flexibility is great. If this was to start in NORMAL all the time I would be looking for a new home.

The active exhaust sounds pretty darn good from the factory, even more so after a relatively cheap resonator delete. Plus having the ability to control volume is nice.

Sure an aftermarket exhaust will probably sound a bit better, but most are pretty loud and they are quite expensive. A quality axleback is easily $600 + install and most catbacks are well over $1000 + install. You also loose the active volume control unless you retrofit one or buy a system with a tacky RF/wireless control feature.

When I was buying it was a requirement. I'm glad I got it, you can definitely tell the difference between each mode. I added an H-Pipe to my car last year and it's even better now.

I have mine set to start on quiet from 8p-9a and its just slightly louder than my next door neighbor's Infinity when we both start up in the garages. Quiet is also fantastic on the road anytime if you are trying to have a quiet conversation in the car or on the phone etc. I do prefer running it on the hwy in normal or sport depending on my mood.
I should have been clearer in my initial post. I do love the AE. I just meant, that I had not sought it out, and am glad I got it. But, if I needed to use that 1k elsewhere (maybe say if I wanted the 301a over 300a, I could have lived with out it).

I watched a lot of youtube videos from vendors that are selling H or X pipes where they do the comparisons of the different stock AE settings vs their pipe. Online, even if they are just doing the stock, I really cannot hear a difference between the settings enough to have convinced me to purchase the factory option. However, in person it is a MUCH bigger difference. First chance I can find someone local with an H pipe and AE, I want to hear it so I know if I will go that route.

No regrets on AE as it is from Ford though!

I test drove a 2022 GT California Special last weekend with the active exhaust and it was SICK!! I would say it's a must have for me. It's nice to have the ability to have control over it.

Thanks for the feed back. When I watch the YouTube videos I can't tell any difference in the sound with the Active Valve Exhaust.

After hearing it on a test drive at a dealer I knew I wanted it. Hearing in person was what it took for me. On video doesn't give you the real sound.
