you trying to make me cry? i still have nightmares where i think back to 2014 and i thought about buying and but said no, i'm not sure how this will play out. i'll just spend this extra money on a new tv :crying:
sheet I bought shares of Apple stock when it was like $6 (the IBM years) and sold at like $20. I mean Apple was doomed into irrelevance. Bought a bunch of BBRY and barely got a 50pct earn. Bought shipping stocks and lost my ass (19 down to 3) but I recently got smart and started buying class A shares and those are paying lovely dividends.

I had the opportunity to buy Bitcoin at less than $100. But given the scam/ponzi that is Bitcoin I couldn't conceive of putting even so much as $500 at risk with any hope of recovery.

And if you wanted one, you could at 14 mow lawns, have a paper route, shovel show (depending on area), etc. and pack away money for that day you walked into the dealership at 17 or 18 with new lic. to drive and a pocket full of change and buy the car. as it is a lot easier to save up 3489.00 than it is for a kid to save 45k-66k for a car. at that point keep saving and buy a house.
Frankly if I was a kid today, I'd be working and living in my parent's basement, stashing away cash for buying a houe. or if that wasn't an option. I'd buy a used rv before a car, and live in it while I stashed away cash and bought a home cash. As that is the only way they'll be able to afford one, unless the market tanks again. like 2008-2010.
One of my children is doing this now. Has a little over 200k saved. and is on Her way to being a home owner by the end of 2023. Free and clear. I thought she was nuts, but within 8 years, she'll have enough funds to buy a house free and clear. something it takes many 30 years or more to do.
But a new or even late model used vehicle of any kind isn't on her radar anytime soon. Becaause even after buying whatever she decides, she'll need a truck, for all those home improvement/changes/etc. and a sports car will not work.
But a dent side with a 302 will .
This BS about kids buying new Mustangs while in high school or right out of college. It would have only happened for rich kids when I was that age. The rich kids were getting BMW 320i's that their daddy's bought them. The girls got 320i or VW Rabbit Vert.s

I didn't buy my first "NEW" Mustang until I was in my 30's. I bought my first Mustang, a 1967 Fastback in 1978 for $1450. It had 137K miles on it and it needed some work. Ended up rebuilding and upgrading the 390ci. engine with my dad's help.

Hardly anyone in my class had a new car, and all us "car" guys had mostly mid to late 60's muscle or pony cars. They were cheap then as the gas crisis had and was happening. Gas went from 29.9 cents to 50+ cents a gallon.

I remmber when we discussed bitcoin in college...when it was sub 10c per coin. and went, nah, It'd make more sense to spend 100 bucks on whiskey instead of on 1,000 coins of this stupid idea that is digital currency....

1000 coins. hell, coulda bought even earlier....I could OWN Ford. not some Ford. ALL of Ford.

The word if must be the most powerful word 😂 or maybe the most frustrating….

Not as versatile as the most versatile word, f..k, though 🤪🤓 but can many times be combined together

Like “what IF I next f….g year would grow some big f…g balls so I don’t have to use the word IF as f…g much”

Have nice f…g New Year

why would she pay cash for the house at time of record low interest rates???????
Because no mortgage is still cheaper than even the best interest rates.
Now you are free to take the money you would pay monthly and invest it.
Even at 2.5% on a 300k home, is a lot of money, even after you get some back as a tax deduction.

I have two teens that are about to start driving this year so me and wife been asking them what type of car they think they're going to want and both said they don't care as long as it has CarPlay and lots of cameras. Kids are not built like we are these days..
There are teenagers on both sides and across the street from where I live. I have a 454/550hp BBC in a 69 SS. When I start the car up w/o the exhaust connected, not one kid notices. When these same kids have parties the street is filled with SUVs.

IMO just having a better looking face makes the Mach 1 worth it. The 2018 front end is pretty meh.

there are quite a few teenagers on this forum posting about their GTs and hard work and I have to remind myself not to be a jealous/bitter crank and call out their B.S., especially not the ones driving new cars.

I worked plenty hard as a teenager, and even living with my parents, there was no way I was purchasing a $20k vehicle. Maybe if I had been gifted free equipment to start a power washing company or something, but that assumes you spend literally nothing on food/dates/etc

Plus there's no mall, or burger and malt joint to hang with the greasers.

with all due respect i've never heard that argument made by anyone that i would trust for financial advice. in an era of double digit inflation, borrowing money at historic lows and fixed rates is a no brainer. otherwise you are essentially giving your money to the bank to profit off of it. over 30 years you can do much better holding that money and investing it. congrats to your daughter for working hard and saving though. thats a great accomplishment at a young age.

Yea, I'm 100% OK with the bank paying me to own my home. Also props to his kid for saving
