I saw a Hyundai commercial last night and they showed a truck. I had no idea Hyundai made a truck....
Not that I want one, but I was curious of the specs. It's very similar to the rest of the market for a small 4 cylinder truck but I did notice the base model curb weight was less than my car!
Goodness our cars are fat pigs. I really hope the new 7th gen goes on some serious weight loss (it probably won't). I would love if it came in around 3500-3600 lbs

my 2002 F-150 and the mustang I had on order weighed within about 50 lbs of each other.

I was riding alongside a Toyota 86 on the expressway earlier this week, and he was swerving and jetting through traffic, and the car accelerates faster than I expected 200hp to be capable of. Then I remembered.....2800 lbs. I don't do much performance driving if you don't count the way I usually take an on-ramp, so I'm actually glad my car is a bit on the portly side. I bet it rides better than an 86.

IIRC, my '19 F150 RCSB 4X4 with the 5.0 is only like 600# heavier than my '15 Mustang. And only a couple hundred pounds over a current GT500. Heavy pigs indeed.

Ford needs to get these things back down around 3200#, but it'll never happen in the age of creature comforts, nannies, and safety gear.

Creature Comforts come at a cost....lol.

This got me curious so I looked up the curb weight of my '05 Signal Cab Ranger. Google says its around the 3100# mark. Makes me want to Coyote swap it even more now.

The Santa Cruz isn't really a truck, it uses the same chassis as their compact unibody SUV the Tuscon.

That's what makes the Miata such a hoot to drive. On the other hand, my Hemi Ram Quad Cab weighed in at 6,600#.

My last car was a Golf GTI and it had even more creature comforts than the Mustang and it only weighed 3086 lbs. Obviously the much bigger engine in the Mustang weighs a lot more than the 2.0 in the Golf but the engine doesn't account for the entire difference. Another difference is the size, the Mustang is a much longer car despite not being any roomier on the inside. The Mustang has grown with each generation, if you compare a new Mustang with the 1993 version it's significantly longer and wider. I know that modern safety standards (crumple zones, etc) necessitate more room but I still don't like it. All that said, I still like my Mustang better than my Golf, I just wish it was a bit shorter and lighter.

I think I should consider a Monster Miata for my next car
2600 lbs and 525 hp....how a sports car should be 🤣
Yes.

An uncle is a Pontiac collector, and has a pristine, low-mile '09 Solstice GXP in Brazen Orange that I keep pestering him to drop an LS into.

Yeah, one of my biggest gipes with the S550...
My S197 got a type certificate for 1575 kg while the Bullitt comes in a "road hugging weight" of 1758kg. Or for imperial units: 2.4306x10^7 grain and 2.71301x10^7 grain respectively. :)
Yeah ok, it comes with more stuff, but the S197 is a Premium GT too.

I would have used ounces, but there are troy, fine, medicine, liquid ounces, next to stone short and long tons or bushels.

That size Issue and shape is correct. Thats why Hot hatches are really popular basically everywhere. They are basically miniature Station wagons.
In regards of size, even the Golf gained more than 0.2meters in width and it also significantly longer than the original one. This is a global problem across almost all cars.
Ok, people got bigger too, and i prefer having an accident in a modern Mustang/Golf/Benz than in their 30-40year old counterparts.

Making the car lighter would be feasable, but at a cost, which would directly effect prices of the entry models. (Would be less of an Issue in a 70k Shelby than a 29k Base) So they are "stuck" with hubs, wheels or other "easy" parts to swap/lighten
