I live in Las Vegas and just purchased my 2016 Shelby gt350 a few months ago, still in summer season. I will do minimal side road driving and more highway driving to go to car shows but after about 30-40 minutes of driving the car looses all power. I get no pop up notifications or lights on. Only one time I got a notification saying it was over heating. I’m assuming it is just going into a limp mode but it’s annoying that I can drive to a car show and about 15 minutes after leaving I have no power and am in limp mode. The whole way back. Any ideas??

I think you should take it to the dealership or a repair shop. Sounds like it could be a different problem. Every time my 2016 pulled power it gave a message first.

And when it pulls power, it shouldn't feel like it loses all power. It's still fast even after it pulls power. I don't think you would normally even notice the change during street driving, unless you are launching and try to rev it out to 8K RPM in first. I think something else is going on.

This was some of my gauges when it happens. However I have seen the cylinder head temp at 230° and my oil temp around 250°

If it's going into limp mode it's due to the transmission getting hot. Your engine has the same cooling as the track pack GT350s. Ford didn't skimp on your engine cooling.

More details I should have put in. When I was on track the one time before I swapped transmissions to the track pack unit, I was able to short shift at about 5k RPM for a while. IIRC it just limited the higher RPMs (at first).

Ok good to know, so there’s not a easy fix I can do? I have the warranty I just don’t want the techs at the dealers driving my car…

Maybe someone else on here knows of something for a quick fix, but unfortunately I think your best bet is going to be the dealer. If it's limp mode there's nothing they can do, but they should be able to confirm it's only limp mode and no other problems are coming up.

Maybe you can get an appointment and just have them pull codes without you actually dropping the car off with them.

if your worried about dealers driving your car there are monitoring devices you can put on car to make sure they dont go crazy in it. but tbh they work on cars for a living, normally the last thing they want to do is dog out a car and have to then fix it and get fired.

Those temperature readings seem within range, at least that's what I've seen after some heavy driving. What seems out of range is the air/fuel ratio. From what I recall, I think I'm used to seeing something in the 13-14 range. 20 means it's very lean, which would cause low power.

If you don’t have the Track Pack, you do not have a transmission cooler. In hot weather, they can overheat in normal driving and go into limp mode. You can install a cooler, but that’s not cheap.
Shelby and others made a bolt on scoop that directed air around the trans and blocked heat from the cats. Don’t know if those are still out there.

Do you have any recommendations that are reasonable on price? Since it would be a one time use thing

Ok, if it’s normal than that’s good. My other mustang is a 2018 gt performance pack and it’s never had an issue, or went limp with heavy driving all day.

I swear it was around 13 right before I took the picture. I’ll have to watch that
