Strange question I know, but can anyone here recommend a readily available hose pipe that can be wound onto a spool for storage and doesn't kink in a million places whenever it is uncoiled?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

so I have 2 hoses.

one heavy duty lifetime warranty hose from costco on my "eley" hose reel, I use it rarely. but its stupid strong. costco has lifetime warranty on their hoses, return policy anyway

I have two of these on my house, bought one for my grandma too. 5. year warranty from the company, but I am lazy and dont want to deal with the company if they break, my Sams club said just keep the box/receipt and they will refund any time in 5 years, I just broke box down and stapled it to receipt. I use this for pressure washing 3200psi unit and everything, has not failed me. says "pressure washer safe" etc.

either way, 29 bucks, 5 years guaranteed from Sams club for refund if fails, no brainer to me. works great.

edit, sorry I saw your United Kingdom, I do not know if you guys have these over there. but if so maybe would help you

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I shall see if I can find one, it’s even the right colour to match my car!!

I had heard good things about the Wilko kink resistant / flexible when cold hose, but it seems to be getting increasingly difficult to find i.e. my local branch only had 15M (I needed the 30M) and now they don't have any of it at all - I cant find it on their website either ...

Might be worth checking your local store ?

I have a Draper hose at the moment, it's good quality and nice for summer but it becomes very stiff in winter ... :frown:

Yes, strange question. However, don’t go searching for the holy grail of hoses just get a bog standard hose. The trick is to fit a hoselock stop end on it (the one that allows you to connect/disconnect hoselock type appliances whilst the hose is under pressure). Then wind/unwind the hose when it has water pressure in it - it won’t then kink. Just remember to switch off the water supply and release the pressure out of it when coiled, particularly in winter otherwise freezing temperatures could result in a burst hose.

Good call!! This needs to be done from day one as once there is a kink, it’s there forever, especially on the cheap yellow hose lock that I have.

i bought one of the expanding hoses which are brilliant for not kinking. Not so useful in that without water pressure you cannot fill it so it means carrying the pressure washer to the hose tap, clipping everything in then walking the hose and washer back to the car. The hose doesn't kink and takes 10 seconds to put back in the bag. Takes longer for the water to drain from it but use it to water the garden before pushing it back into the bag. 30metre hose though the have 15 and 20metre ones I think

When you use hoses all day long for a living, you quickly get a feel for what is a quality hose, and what is absolute steaming pile of kinking cra.........

NEVER EVER buy a cheap hose!

I have been using Gardena hoses and hose fittings for decades now. These are high quality hoses and feature simple but strong fittings that will last for a very long time.

I would be aiming for the Flex, SuperFlex, or HighFlex versions. Buy a longer hose than you think you need, you will always be glad you did.

I can also vouch for their hose reels too.

@DFB5.0 - Do you have any experience of those in 'cold' (Couple of degrees above freezing) weather ?

That seems to be my biggest issue and my only complaint with my current hose, it's like a plastic rod at those temperatures ... lol

I have not, thankfully. Our winters only go down to a -2 deg Celsius at the worst.

I have one of these attached to the wall inside my garage. When I want to wash the car I just swing it out a little (it pivots) and pull out the hose. Give it a hard yank and it will retract automatically. I've been using it for 4 years.

Did the monthly bog roll and cat litter shop at Wilko and they had one of these stacked with the 30m heavy duty hose :

No price on the shelf, but it scanned at the till for £20 so it came home with me. This is the hose I had been recommended for cold weather use (the only complaint I have with my current hose).

Compared to the heavy duty Wilko hose it differs in the following ways :

£20 v £12.
5 layer v 3 layer.
450 psi v 400 psi (seems pointless).
30 years v 10 years.
An extra 10 deg C on either end of the temp range.
Webbed outer sheathing with the additional black stripes.

Too bad it’s the wrong time of year to report back on how stiff it gets when it’s cold … !

Wilko's rock, soo many good items in the shop.

but at +2 degC to -2degC the water seems to freeze in jet washes anyway so the hose is er stiff by default  I remember the time i tried to jet wash my car during winter on a frozen jet wash area. Pulled the trigger on the cold rinse high pressure and did full 360 like torvill and dean

Yeah when I have managed to get water out of the hose, I have had occasions when it has frozen when it gets on the car and where it’s ran across the drive

Every winter I consider putting a hot tap on the outside, still not got around to doing it though …
