W111BOB, in that case I shall wish you my luck with previous BMWs with your mustang and I'll take your luck with your mustang :) . Hopefully we both have more success :)

i think every manufacture has issues i had no end of issues with my M3 but i've also had issued with the mustang too and getting ford or the dealers to give an acceptable level of customer service is impossible it appears. perhaps i've spent too long dealing with american companies where customer service is for the most part amazing so I expect more than british people are willing to give.

the mustangs issues are kinda unique too though, if it was the 30k car like it is in the states most of us wouldn't bat an eyelid about bad customer service or things taking a while imagine you'd bought a base model mondeo and something broke you'd just go "oh well" so the build quality and parts quality is on par with the budget car it is, the problem is over here they priced it (certainly now anyway) at a level where people expect more and they just don't receive it.
couple that with the dealers (all franchise) who customer service is a burden to them as they don't make profit on customer service they're just box shifters and their managers put insane pressure on them to deliver the latest box shifter in quantity they don't care if 1% get returned or are faulty as that is more than covered by shifting another 1000 units of X they work on basic probability and stats maths :(
Only time this isn't the case and you tend to get really really really good service is when the cars 100k+ now those dealers are brilliant they even deliver the car to you (on a trailer not driven) to save you having to go pick it up :)

If you want boring reliability buy Japanese or Korean, the German cars are worse for reliability than Ford. I had worse service with my BMW than my Mustang

I think that is probably the best summary, I'm used to USA customer service as well from my time out there, and it just doesn't come across here for some reason.

In the US, whatever you're buying there's usually another company just round the corner competing for the business. Over here we don't have the same choice...much more "like it or lump it".
I have an 80 mile round trip to the nearest Fordstore. The most local Ford dealer to me - a 30 mile round trip - has just sold out to a developer so the town of 20000 inhabitants will have both Costa and Starbucks but the entire county of Angus will have one Ford dealer, 25 miles from me...
