Good question.

I had suggested in Post #13, even if a GT350/350R is not in the VIN Group or Build Dates suggested by the Official Document(s), Owners of the model YEAR should still perform the check as outlined in the docs. Many others have checked it themselves; It's very easy to do and gives one a semi-piece of mind.

There was the cat with the 2019 that appeared not to be activated, who couldnā€™t get anyone to touch his car cause it wasnā€™t in the recall...

Thx. I'm not part of the recall when you look at the Ford Pass app or on the Ford website and I checked mine out and it appears to be activated. You mentioned a VIN Group - is there a list of VINs that are under the recall?

Got an update from the dealer, secondary timing is good, only have to change secondary timing chain, tensioner and guide. Tensioner was NOT activated on both sides. I have to say the mechanic at my dealer is very good and knowledgeable about the GT350ā€™s

[/QUOTE Could you tell us your engine builder ? My car has been in the shop 3 weeks but I just noticed tonight on my Ford Pass app my car was driven 7 miles this afternoon so Iā€™m assuming Iā€™m getting closer to getting her back. This process has been killing me slowly.

They said they were changing both sides so I am assuming neither were activated. Hoping we both get our cars back Soon. Iā€™m in Canada and can only assume I will be waiting a little longer for parts.
Just got my car back 3 weeks to the day. Definitely seems to be quieter in the motor with the hood up. The mechanic said everything went smoothly and he said the two new tensioners were different from the stock ones and activated differently. If i remember correctly he said you just push these down to activate.

Same reply I got from my tech, that the new tensioers are slightly different.

Happy to hear your car is back. The tensioners and chains came in yesterday so I am hoping to get my car back next week. They are also replacing the rear camera which is no longer working and I also think my a/c compressor is on its last leg, its making the same gasping sounds that my 17 was making before it conked out.

Does anyone have a pic of the "as built" tensioner vs the "new" tensioners to see the visual differences?

Looked at right side tensioner today,
Appears good, activated groove visible.
Engine build date December 4, 2020
Builder Jason Altadonna.
Hopeful left bank is good also.
We did receive Ford letter.

Anyone anal enough to consider installing the new style tensioners on a car that otherwise checks out fine?

Hello; I do not currently have a Mustang so give my comments the value they deserve. I have in the past done a great deal of work on a vehicle just to have peace of mind. If I was confident I had the skill and the tools to do the job, the time and effort seemed worth it.
A big factor would be if the vehicle still had warranty. I would not dig into an engine so deep while under warranty. I would let Ford roll the dice in that case.

Ford dealer inspection yesterday confirms tensioner was activated on the right side.
Jason Altadonna builder.
Anyone else have more info on what caused this TSB?
Was it a run of defective tensioners?

Most likely excessive warranty claims for low mileage engine failures. We only see what has been posted here, but on a global scale for those that do not belong to forums or hover over the internet 24/7, there's probably more cases logged than we know.
