Dave's complaint is that gears 2, 3, and 4 in the MT82D4 are spaced too far apart (2.10/1.42/1.00), especially that huge step between 2 and 3. The TR-3160 fits gears 2, 3, 4, and 5 into almost the same range (2.23/1.61/1.24/1.00). Axle gearing can't change transmission gear spacing.

Peakier engines are better matched to close-ratio gearboxes.

he also said he didn’t want to go another $20K in debt, so I offered the 4.09’s as an economical improvement, understanding it isn’t the perfect answer. But I’ll tell anyone within shoutin’ distance what a huge improvement to the driving experience they made for me.

That is my next mod, I was considering selling and getting a Mach or lease a new BMW G82 M4. Due to the deal I got it just cemented my view I am in this car for awhile. Either until the S650 or the LCI update for the BMW.

I’m surprised no one noticed the braking disparities from the OP’s original post.

Both the M1 and the PP2 outbraked the GT350... now that’s interesting.

I don't see 4.09s as an improvement over 3.73s that come with the PP. Even with 3.73s, you're at the top of 4th in the 1/4, and the very top of 2nd for the 0-60mph. Being limited to about 85 mph in 3rd (and 168-ish in 6th) is bad enough, I can't imagine going shorter than that with 4.09s. I don't think that the Mach 1 is worth it at all, but I don't want magneride, and I already have the tune to give me the 20+ hp. The Tremec would be nice, no doubt. Not $55k nice.

Sorry but until you've had 4.09's, you really can't understand how much they affect the car's performance. Number crunching doesn't replace seat-of-the-pants. Let me qualify that by saying 4.09's in 2018+ cars; the 2015-17 transmission ratios were different and I have no experience with that.

Sad thing is if I was just 10 years younger I would have done it. Mid 50s now I really have to start to watch how I spend money. I really want a new BMW G82 M4, but now go even more into debt.
That's funny because I'm in the exact same spot with G82 versus Mach 1, not so much in terms of debt, but more in justifying the extra $20-25k. I've owned 3 mustangs in my life, and 2 BMW's (540i and an '08 M3 with the V8). You can definitely feel the BMW quality and the new gen (outside of the grill that really doesn't look bad in person to me anyway), but the Ford really screams "bang for buck". My thought was to either lease the M4 for 3 years then decide if I want to buy, or buy the Mach. Leaning heavily towards the Mach, especially with the Granger deal and I would actually look forward to a 1,000 mile ride home with my kid. Then again, I barely passed on a brand new leftover 2017 ZL1 in 2018 for $52k, that I could have traded in today for more $, but live and learn. Used car prices are so off the charts right now, that a mid-$50k pricetag for a brand new Mach 1 seems like such a screaming deal. especially if you don't care about waiting time for production. My buddy has a PP1 and absolutely loves it.

Really? Everything that I have read shows that the MT82 ratios for the GT are the same from 2015 to at least 2020. What are my ratios and what are yours? Have I equaled the seat-of-the-pants feelings with my FBO and 3.73?

wow, dude, you need better source material !

The feel of the D5 trans vs D4 w/ 3.73 is still dramatically different. In just 5 minutes driving @EmCel 's D5 with 3.55 had me swearing at Ford and wanting to hang the bastards who consigned the late comers to the hell of the D4.

Before I drove them back to back I couldn't comprehend what all the hullabaloo was about.

Ok, what you’re saying is that my gears are shorter than a 2018-2021, and my 3.73 are closer to 4.09 in 2018+ cars.

The lease for the new M4 attracted me as I can write a good portion of it off by writing it off through the company. Its just though you still have to live through a $900 payment. Also, I love my Mustang, I just wish it was put together better. The build quality is not bad, but its not that good either. I actually like the new M4, it looks way better in person than in photos. BTW, my 2013 M3.

Saw this M4 with Forgestar wheels...not a fan of black wheels but still nice.
