So, what I am getting is that IF this stock file was lost, Ford couldn't just reset the CPU? If that is the case, not good.

That is the case. Either buy a new ECU from Ford or a tune and flashing device from Lund.

I was always under the impression that you better not lose your tuner if it had the stock tune file on it.

On my Diablo inTune my stock file is stored on the device, I can also download it as well.

Until this thread ive never heard of any tuner not allowing the vehicle to be sent back to default or oem tune.

You mean to say if the owner demodded and went to sell the car as stock the base file is gone?

Somethings missing here.

I have a stock file but it’s not the one from my car. Lund sent me a stock file. Hopefully that means it will unlock the PCM.

I have no clue on how LUND works. My stock file that came with the car is PCM_*******_Backup.frg & because of CMR proprietary format, reloading that is like the PCM was never tuned.

It means if you buy a car that has an existing tune on it from Lund, it cannot be flashed by anyone but Lund via a device they support. If you get a tune from Lund and you lose or break your tuning device, then you have to go through them to get a new device to tune it. This is why used Lund nGauges are going for big money now that they are discontinued.

As long as you return the stock tune file to the car, your fine.

Both. See my post above. As long as you have the tuning device to "unlock it" and flash to stock your fine. Lose the device and expect to pay more money to do anything else tune wise.

The N gauge scrambles the ecu

There is a help file on Lund's web site saying in order to use the VCM scanner with the RTD Lund has to send a de scramble key. I do not know if this key will work to allow an overwrite of the tune.
