Technically, because they are locknuts, they should be replaced. This is because the self locking becomes compromised upon removal - it’s unavoidable. Will you have any noticeable deficiency effect from reusing them? Probably not.
Hmmm, your right about not having any real difference, but for peace of mind I might just stop by a Ford dealer and pick some new ones up. Can't be much.

W712334-S440 is the part number for those locknuts.
Just curious for my own reference, how did you find the part number? Is it also specific to my 2021 GT Convertible w/ track pack? Thank you!

Because I bought new ones at one point. With how often you have to take off the strut bar for various jobs its probably worth having a few sets on hand.

Nice, thanks for the info! I'll pick up a new set and just replace and retorque them soon since I don't plan on removing the brace again soon.

I would not count my chickens before they hatch.

You're going there, one extra set will not kill you, and you will save some time in the end.

Blue Lock Tight (242 only) & torque also works .

Replacing the nuts is interesting because the locking feature will not keep the joint tight, it will only keep the nut from loosening. The *only* thing that will keep the joint tight is bolt stretch. We don't see locking nuts on head bolts or connecting rod bolts.

A tight joint is a result of the torque value as I underestand ?

A little trivia.... what was the last year Ford applied Blue to a mustang engine & what year did ford stop apply paint to any engine?
Heck in 2004 Ford didn't even bother to paint the Mach1 Cam covers. They are black in 2003 and just bare metal in 2004. How's that for cost cutting?

Torque is a way of estimating bolt stretch that is much easier than measuring stretch. Good connecting rod bots have a recess for measuring stretch with a micrometer since that is much more accurate than torque.

I assembled an engine using a micrometer to check the con rod bolts, the recommended torque value did not provide quite enough stretch but it probably would have been ok. It was also a big pita to check the bolts that way, ;)

How did you attach the modified cover?
The center cover section has 6 ball and socket push on connectors that are molded into the manifold. Just need to push it on and rock solid.

I bet! Just debating now between Blue 242 or new nuts. Might eventually do the "sound tube" delete so I know I'll be in there again, haha.

Good info. I suppose the whole point of Blue 242 or new treated bolts is to keep the nut from getting loose and losing it's torque value, assuming I understand this correctly.
