Hi all,

I took the engine cover off my 2018 GT a while back, and have misplaced the nuts. Is anyone aware of the exact specs of the nuts, so i can re-purchase? The thread on the two bolts looks around 6 or 7mm but i don't know for sure. I'm guessing Ford spares would charge a hiked-up price for them so i'd prefer to get them from a local hardware store. I already bought some 10mm hex nuts but the centre thread was far too big.

Thanks in advance.

I took my engine cover off and don't intend to ever put it back. I hesitate to say this, but...do you want my nuts?
Haha, thanks for the offer, I'm in Australia though so the postage might be a problem!

Yeah I realized that once I checked your profile. I can help in another way, though. I'll take them to a hardware store and try to find a matching thread. Should be going tomorrow.
Very kind. I'll let you know if I get it sorted prior.

A few months ago I reinstalled my cover I forgot to reinstall the retaining nuts and did not know it for weeks til I spotted them on my work bench. Maybe just leave them off.

Yeh I actually initially re-fitted it as above, just using the retaining clips and the oil filler lid to hold it in which would be fine in most situations, but I like the OEM feel where possible. I ended up getting some flanged "M6" 6mm hex nuts, which fit perfectly. None of my socket spanners are magnetised, so it makes it a big tricky to locate the spanner down the ~2 inch tunnel to the retaining bolt without the nut falling out of place. Ended up just taping the new nut to the socket, then breaking the tape with force once it was tightened. Then of course the socket from my cheap-arse spanner detached with it, so I fished it out with needle nose pliers. Dodgy backyard job to the max.

All good now!

Yeah i need better tools, working with crap really.
But hey, once you get nicer tools, you'll have all these experiences with crap tools to boost your skill with the better tools.

That's how that works, right?
