treadwear is an arbitrary made up number for marketing purposes. There is no industry standard. It means NOTHING as a description of outright grip and can NEVER be used as a comparison metric between brands. Within a single brand of tire or model family yes the TW rating can indicate a relative ranking.

The reason the SC3 and PS4S are the same is because they turn the same lap times on the same car. Anyone who has run the SC3R and Cup2 knows that pairing is the correct matchup.
Incorrect.
The sport cup 2 is a match up to the SC3 more precisely. Both categorized as "extreme performance summer" whereas the PS4 is a completely different tire for a different purpose. It is just an awesome summer tire for DD cars. The 2 I just listed are specifically track tires.

So a $45,000 PP2 with 2 extra coolers for $8,000 is a bargain to you?
Sorry, you need to go to the Ford Build and Price. Yes, if you buy a stripped down PP2.
Why don't you buy that car and move on to another thread?

good god man, it's MARKETING. Instrumented testing is what makes one tire comparable to another.

I wrote that whole long post to try to explain. One lap - yes the PP2 might make one lap faster. But do you want bragging rights on the internet or a fun track day car?
There’s a subset of buyers who probably want something between those two extremes. I enjoy going to car shows and back road carving, and may do some autocross. The Mach would scratch those itches. I’ve been to track days but probably won’t be doing anymore. I’ve driven GT350’s and PP2’s and am curious how the Mach performs compared to them.

So far we think the Mach will have better track day stamina and should hopefully perform better. Those two factors plus the appearance should be what people need to judge whether its worth the extra bank to them.

Absolutely not. The tread is nearly identical. The purpose nearly identical. It is Goodyear's inferior attempt to make a cheaper tire for GM than just using the sport cups.

I knew I should have jumped in on this thread Saturday. Everything I wanted to say has already been said.
Already having a PP2, the Mach1 isn't that big of a bargain for me, but the Mach1 is the car I'd like to have. It adds transmission, coolers, and other small things that I want, but will have to live without, and I can live with that. That is unless one of you wants to give me an extra $20,000 or 30,000😊

Definitely there is some "fuzz" in treadwear ratings (JUST like EPA fuel economy, for example), but UTQG numbers are hardly arbitrary. There is a standardized test and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration can FINE a company if they find that there are inconsistencies in the tire's rating.

So unless you have something BETTER to refer to than a UTQG rating that is based on an actual government standardized test, you are just making stuff up when you say the SC3 is equivalent to the less sticky 4S Michelin. They are not even close.

UTQG ratings are based on an instrumented test that is standardized as well. And the UTQG ratings are monitored by the government for accuracy as I stated above.

It's a bullitt with a auto option. We did not get a shaker hood and we got some blank spots on the grill. I just wish it was more.

Yes, if you are just going to cruise around to car shows and never drive the car hard I can see how you might feel that way.

$1000 bumper
$3000-2000 = swap TR3160 for MT82
$1000 rear diff cooler
$1000 trans cooler

So somewhere between 4-6k and you too can have a PP2/Mach hybrid.

This is kind of what I was getting at by asking if the badge worth the extra cost... these cars are really close. And depending on what track you're on, the TR3160 may not give you better times, so even that could be debated as being an upgrade. Sometimes new and different doesn't equal a lot better, but just being different is worth it for some folks.
