The Mustang officially with the S550 generation (arguably starting with the Boss 302 from a couple years prior) is no longer just a muscle car and is now a legit, bonafide sports car. I'm no expert on the prowess of the original Mach 1, but I don't think it had the same design goals or nearly the same end result. It may have been much faster in a straight line for its time, which is a pretty cool thing in itself, don't get me wrong... but I doubt it will hold a candle to the new Mach 1 around a road course, even with PSC2 tire upgrades.
the mustang as for 69-73 held to the same basic philosophy, of course tech was different so the levels we can achieve now were unfathomable 50 years ago (and the current levels are friggin ridiculous, especially out of such small motors). it was to be the dominant 2+2 (which the current car still is, it is NOT a sports car by definition, except the rear seat delete models and even those stretch the definition, it is just set up to compete against sports cars) on the track and the street and the strip, just with different variants focused on different places. the GT was for long point to point 'races', the Boss for the track, and Mach 1 for the street and strip. and the shelby for the track as well. Now, they are all focuses on the track, albeit with tech that makes them superbly qualified for the GT role as well. and while the new Mach 1 will be better on the strip or street than the old ones were, that is merely a by product of their track performance, not the focus, which is were my problem lies. I would have preferred a more street and strip oriented focus than the solely track oriented focus.

now, maybe the reason the A10 isn't available with the HP is because the HP is solely track focused, whereas the A10 is superior on the strip, so combining the two doesn't accomplish much, perhaps there is some logic in there somewhere, to provide the strip platform without the excess of the HP that doesn't help on the strip and allow the owner to make changes as they see fit.

And just think what would be if it had 500-510 HP instead of 480. Not to mention the cache of its own unique engine spec, the true pinnacle of 5.0 performance.
A less reliable engine and drivetrain because they are asking too much from it?

Why do you think they have the clauses in the Power Pack intake and throttle body kit to bring the GT up to 480 that, if it is found that the engine has a failure related to the package that the warranty will not cover it? Maybe, 480 is already pushing a 5.0 in the Coyote gen 3 version.

LOL um, wheels and tires? It has the same tires as a PP1. The PP2 would mop the floor with a base Mach 1 on a track.
for 2 laps before it goes into limp mode anyways, right?

From what I see, I expect the Mach I to be faster 0-60 and quarter mile than any GT offering as well as the outgoing Bullitt. And it will be better on the track for longer than a PP2 or S197 Boss. I haven’t quite figured out why that sucks. Ford fixed the Tremec issue and the cooler issue. They added a 10AT option to the PP2. I guess not having a Shaker negates all that.

pretty sure if we are adding mods, then all bets are off, no? granted that mod would be cheaper than 4 rims and tires for the Mach 1

The HP has similar wheels and tire to the PP2. All the other PP2 suspension stuff is in the base Mach 1. What the PP2 doesn't have is 480 HP. I updated my previous comment that many PP2 owner always sell their Cup 2s so Ford gave us good tires and wheels from the parts bin as an option.

True, and it doesn't suck by any stretch of the imagination. Some of us just wanted a more bespoke/unique engine spec than a simple Bullitt transplant, that's all, which would have made the Mach even more of a standout.

And, again, I don't care one whit about the shaker......

When I was still at GM leading Competitor Intel, my team informed Al O. that the 2018 Mustang GT was going to come in at 460 hp. Camaro was (and still is) 455. His response was that he could care less about leading in hp, as long as he was leading in performance. Mach I will lead in every aspect of performance compared to any Mustang short of a Shelby. I think that’s a win.

I love the way the handling pack looks. I would/will get one if the price is a lot lower than a gt350. People seem to think it will ruin 58ish with the handling pack and you can get a brand new gt350 for that price. Who would choose the mach 1 over a gt350 excluding the a10 crowd?

And that's what I was hoping I'd get but for 5-8k less since no shelby name. I did really want 4p calipers in the rear as well.
