Ladies and Gentlemen, lend me your knowledge. A buddy of mine has recently purchased a 2016 ZL1 6 speed (640 hp) and has amused himself with a little trash talk. I had already planned on supercharging the car (2019 GT 10R80) this year and really want to embarrass him. What rwhp do you think I need to make in order to make this a reality? Originally I was thinking 700 but that may be overkill. Thoughts?

Calling out OKC #1 spot after axle back install.
I saw a zl1 at the running mid to low 12s. Throw some tires on it and get a baseline.
There would be no bigger embarrassment than having your SC LSwhatever lose to a stock na car.

Unless your buddy is a real good driver running bias slicks, chances are you could beat him being N/A with E85 and drag radials. In 1/4 mile with the A10 you have such an advantage over stick cars. I bruised a lot of egos of high HP stick car owners running that setup.

From a stand still, your car will get the jump. If it's from a roll, you will get a nice view of the ZL1 tail lights, both assuming stock cars. But if you start going down the forced induction route, traction is going to be even worse in the early gears.

Launch control on the ZL1 does work pretty well though.

I've been thinking a lot about that issue. I have already upgraded to a 305 rear tire and as opposed to running a Whipple, I have been thinking about a Vortech supercharger since the torque won't hit as quickly and might assist with getting traction at the start. My thought process seems sound but I could be WAY off the mark.

If it's a 2016 it's not a ZL1; I assume you meant 2017. The current gen ZL1 started in 2017 and had 650 hp from the factory. The manual ZL1 only traps about 3 mph-ish more than the A10 GT PP1 in 1/4 mile despite a huge power advantage because the A10 in the GT is that good. I would think bolt ons and E85 tune should get you there easily. If you had 700 rwhp in the A10 GT, it wouldn't be a contest from a roll vs the M6 ZL1 (or an A10 ZL1 for that matter). From a dig, your 700 rwhp would overwhelm the tires and both cars would spin excessively off the line, unless you really baby it.

Run him best 4 out of 5 to 110 mph if you have drag mode. Since he is manual he will not be consistent every run. So even if you do not win every race it will be close enough to prove a point. ;).

Is that your professional opinion? Cause some of us uneducated hicks would have to disagree with you.

I thought the current gen started in 2012 and was rated at 580 hp? I do NOT claim to be a Chevy expert.

700 rwhp does seem to be too much. I want to able to enjoy the car, I think that high of hp would prevent me from doing that.

Appreciate the response.

A good E85 tune would do wonders for your car.... ;).
I have the Flex Fuel and E85 tune through Lund. Haven't been able to run the E85 dedicated tune since I can only get about 70% ethanol here in NC. And you are right, the Flex Fuel tune by itself made this a totally different car.
