Just got my 2020 mustang gt in December of last year. Love the car but the transmission seems to slip from 1st to 2nd and from 3rd to 4th gear. But if I hammer the gas it doesn’t slip nearly as bad. Should I take car to dealer or is this a normal characteristic of the car?

Although this is a learning tranny it should not feel like it is slipping. I would suggest having it checked just as a precaution.

What gets me is some days it shifts fine and other days it doesn’t. And the whining this transmission makes is loud.

10r80 whine is usually normal. My 2018 and now my 2020 whine!

What is your build date?

Some have noted 10R80s not filled completely from the factory. Might be worth a check.

Impossible, people here tell me only the MT-82 is a POS and the 10 speed is awesome :giggle: Just kidding OP. Go get it checked out, shouldn't be having issues like that. Maybe just a bad torque converter.

This car is weird drove it yesterday and shifting just fine. It seems like when it’s colder outside is when it acts up.

The whine is completely normal. It will subside when you get more miles accrued on the drivetrain.

Also, the thread linked above by Bikeman315 is one you should take some time to read through (if you haven’t already). It contains a lot of info that will benefit new 10R80 owners.

10R80's are known to delay shifts in lower gears when cold.

They also whine because the pump gears are straight cut.

Cold does tend to make it at least seem like the trans is slipping a little with "cold engine" appropriate light throttle shifts. Since I never "hammer" the gas when the engine is cold and usually the trans is reasonably warm by the time the engine warms I don't know if there is less cold slip with more gas. FYI our 175300 mile 97 Mustang 4 speed automatic also has "softer shifts" when cold.

Regarding the whine my 18 has had the whine since new but isn't noticeable at driving speeds even with the windows closed and no radio, etc.noise.

10R80 - Whine Noise
Some 2017-2019 F-150, 2018-2019 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019 Ranger vehicles equipped with a
10R80 transmission may exhibit a whine noise. This may occur at idle and while driving coming from the bell
housing and front pan area of the transmission. The whine noise may become louder when at operating
temperature and increases with higher engine RPM in the PARK position. A small amount of whine noise is
considered to be characteristic of the 10R80 transmission due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support
and has no effect on durability.

These a10’s take forever to get up to 130-140 degrees (operating temps) during colder months. I would not be hammering on it until 140. Drive skips gears 1-3, 3-5 during regular driving btw.

If I had an A10 car, I'd just tell people it's the supercharger whining Then it becomes cool instead of an annoyance.

Took car to dealership this afternoon. The service manager test drove the car and hooked up to computer. It all checked out good. Guess it’s gonna take me awhile to get used to this transmission. He told me when it’s colder outside the transmission seems to slip more. I noticed that to. The main thing is my mind is at ease no worries.
