Don't confuse the Sync operating system update with a map update. They are 2 different things. What you did was an operating system update.

Downloaded the Sync 32.zip which was about 11GB and the license file, formatted my memory card as exfat and loaded everything up. Put it in the car, started it and it gave an error. Went back to the computer to get another file from the original site and it didn't give me the option to download, only to buy for $40.

Went back to the original confirmation email that was sent the first time I downloaded. Clicked on the re-download button and redownloaded everything. Downloaded files to hard drive, extracted the files and then copied everything over, according to the instructions to my usb drive. Popped it in the car, started it, it started updating. Ran the car for 15 minutes and it completed.

My car is a 2019 GT PP1 purchase in May 2019 on Sync 3.3

Is the latest map version 118? I had purchased it few weeks ago and have it installed but got a flyer from Ford the other day saying there is a new update.

I had the same situation... A few weeks after I ordered and installed updated maps I got that same letter. Made me wonder about whether or not Ford was just letting me know they had finally sorted out their map fiasco or if the maps were just updated again.

For what it is worth, I updated my maps in September 2019 to version 118. I got the letter 3 or 4 weeks later so probably in October. If you updated in December and still got version 118 then likely the letter was just a routine mailing based on my interaction with their map update website.

I've asked them when their map updates are typically released several times and never received an answer.

So time has been flying for me lately. I just checked and my update was purchased and done in September too, not a few weeks ago as I thought. Hopefully someone else that has done it recently can chime in to confirm if 118 is indeed the latest one.

Sean, I cannot thank you enough. I gave up trying to load my files to my car. Just went ahead and ordered the drive for $40.00. I did not see the re-download link. Will try again tomorrow. If it works i'll try and cancel my order.

Alright fellas,
For those of us who own 2015-2018 models with first gen Sync3 apim models, there’s still hope! On the following link there’s a guide to upgrade from Sync3.0 to Sync3.4 without upgrading your Apims. I personally installed it this morning and It works. Also the great news is the NA18 nav files are also included. Please read the guide thoroughly and carefully if you’d like to upgrade to v3.4. It works as it should and hopefully it will stay like that (fingers crossed)

Disclaimer: I’m not responsible for your actions. This guide is for those people who can follow guidelines and execute the steps correctly. Perform this upgrade at your own risk. There’s a chance of bricking your apim if you deviate from the instructions or pull the usb the wrong time or you run your battery flat! (I left my car running for over 40 minutes doing this upgrade)
Note : The length of the time needed for this update is directly linked to how fast your usb sticks are transferring data. it could vary between 20 to 40mins.

Enjoy!

Thanks for reposting this Emil. For those still in warranty just think twice about doing this. The odds of a problem are very, very small. But personally it's just not important enough for me to do. Of course I have 3.3 so I will be getting a 3.4 official update eventually.

I noticed when after installing the map updates that when I click on the voice button and say "Find an address", it doesn't talk back or do anything. I did a master reset, still nothing. Anyone else experience this? @Bikeman315

There is a setting for whether Sync responds to commands. Check to see if it got shut off.
