Also, just an aside here. The comment in the article about the steering being numb is interesting. I would have thought that Ford would have sorted that out. I have to say that that has been one of the things I have enjoyed so much about my SS over my GT. To me, the Camaro's connection to the road, even in standard form, is just light years ahead of the how the Mustang feels. Especially in the steering department. The feedback is excellent and you certainly feel WAY more connected to the street. It truly is a different driving experience. I know that does't necessarily translate into any better track performance but for the occasional spirited drive or just the mundane drive to work, it makes a huge difference in the "fun to drive" factor.
I personally hate the "Sport" setting in my GT350. Artificially stiff and feels like more of a shoulder workout than a steering setting. I drive the car at all times in Normal or Comfort if I'm on a long boring trip. Since the "Sport" steering setting is the default for Sport and Track, I wonder if that's what they didn't like.

Sounds like 'track' mode steering in the 1LE. Way too stiff and no feedback. I almost always have the steering in tour mode.

Jason Camissa is uber picky about steering feel and handling and neither he nor Randy Pobst complained about it in the GT500.

Everybody has an opinion.

I only use the track mode at the track, and it works well at that speed. Higher speeds make the steering feel lighter, and when going through a really high speed sweeper I welcome the additional friction, as I dont want to hit a small bump and make a drastic movement. On the street however, I just use Sport and its perfect.

I don't understand how the taller tire creates the bigger foot print. Can someone explain if this true?
If the weight of the car and tire pressure remains the same, the contact patch size will remain the same when increasing the diameter. However:

"Increasing the Diameter also changes the contact patch SHAPE, making it longer (front to rear) and narrower (width) for a given vehicle weight and tire pressure. You can typically also lower tire pressures slightly to increase the contact patch SIZE due to a larger diameter tire. Larger diameter tires generally help for longitudinal grip (drag racing) more than a wider tire. There’s a reason drag racing tires have small diameter wheels, large sidewalls and very large outer diameter tires."

A definite win for the ZLE, just plain faster.

Faster is subjective on the day and the test being performed. A skidpad is not a racetrack and it's obvious the 500 is faster in a straight line. The braking difference is due to 325 tires vs 315 tires and maybe a softer compound on the 1LE. The camaros brakes have been proven to fade over the course of laps where as the 500 brakes have been praised so far for not fading. Maybe you wouldn't know this though since your performance vehicle is a truck just waiting to break down with that good GM build quality.

So randy says the brakes on 500 are squishy, odd i never felt that. But he raves about zle brakes.. interesting
Randy never mentions dull steering (because its not)..

CnD mentions nothing about 500 brakes, only steering, odd..yet the zle subpar brakes are mentioned..along with just how crappy the interior is..

Odd that so many REAL people are enthusiastic about the 500, with nothing bad to say..and its DESTROYING the competition.. yet the magazines are throwing hail maker excuses out..

So odd, its its almost like they have an agenda

Faster is all about time. Time differences calculated. Time is not subjective, it is objective.

Atmospeheric conditions change with time, Internal combustion engines change with atmospheric conditions.

Time is objective when conditions are not subjective

What the heck is a ZLE? Are folks just so lazy they don't want to type out it's offical nomenclature, ZL1 1LE? Guess we should just refer to the GT500 as the GT5 or GT5CFTP?:)
