Hi all, I am starting to research the best enclosed car hauler/trailer options for my new GT500. I really don't need a bench or storage (but would be nice to have), I will only use it a few times a year for shows. I want to keep it as short as possible, and am thinking 22' in length, maybe 8.5' wide. I really want the track system to strap the car down outside the trailer, then slide it in. I have spent the last few nights trying to research one without luck, and end up with more questions than answers lol. I would appreciate any and all advice you may have. I would love help from what brand to what accessories are a must have.

Also, I will be towing with a Crew Cab Raptor. What towing accessories do I want/need? Weight distribution system, air bags, etc...

I am hoping some of you have some pictures of your setups for me to see, and have some companies for me to reach out to.

I apologize if a like thread has been started, I couldn't find one that was helpful.

Thanks,
Jaime

I believe 8,000 pounds with a weight distribution setup

There was another post somewhere on here that mentioned the Rail Ryder system.

I remember seeing this one, and this is when I decided I want that option. I would love to know the brand of this and the specifics and where to get one.

My understanding is Rail Ryder is the brand. I googled it and found the website railryder.com. From looking over the website it seems as though you have to put your info in and they build you a kit to put in your trailer or they can build you a trailer if I remember right. Betting it’s gonna cost a pretty penny though.

I have a lifted 17F250 with 6” coilovers on 37’s, crewcab. I tow a tag toyhauler, 15k loaded, 37’ long. It’s what I use It for mostly. Two things that are worth the money in a tag or bumper pull. Bags and weight distribution hitch. My bag setup is a remote setup. It will not increase tow capacity, but it is extremely nice in getting the correct balance on the back end. It allows you to make the little adjustments depending on where your load is located in the trailer. The equalizer hitch helps alot with cross winds and generally tracking while going down the road. Both of them together are worth every penny the first time you have to do an emergency stop. Most of my towing is in the mountains where it’s tight and the grades are sporty both up and down. My bag setup was less then $600 in parts. Equalizer was less then $500 if I remember correctly. I’ve always had lifted trucks I towed with. Lifted or not I would still do the mods. My company truck is 19 F450 with a 12’ bed. I spend about half my time with something hooked up. Lol

ps. What most forget with all the modern trucks is that making it go isn’t the issue. They all have plenty of power. It’s stopping in an emergency when you have to. Sorry if I come off preachey, unfortunately I’ve seen way to many accidents with improper towing setups.

With only 8K in towing you better go with a very light trailer, I have a 24' Millennium Extreme Race Car Trailer w/Spread Axle w/Rear Wing. It's light to allow for max cargo plus has good brakes and spread axle's for handling, I would get the rail ryder system installed in it. It will not be cheap as the trailer will cost between 20 and 25K plus the rail ryder system. A load distribution hitch is a must you will be towing something that will be about 2K more then your truck weighs. Load distribution, brakes and handling will be very important. I purposely did not go with a raptor and went with a Lariat FX4 max towing so I could get up to 11K in towing. I don't have the rail ryder system installed yet...lol. getting that done very shortly my last Mustang was a convertible so getting in and out with the side door was easier now with a coupe it's a must.

You NEED:
8.5ft wide
V NOSE
ETRACK
WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH +ANTISWAY BAR
ELECTRIC JACK
REAR AIRBAGS

I just towed 12 hours with a 2.7 EcoBoost.
26ft +2ft V
This is more comfortable than any open trailer ive used thus far, except for aluminum tilt trailer

I tow a 24 ft V nose enclosed with a 2002 7.3L Excursion or my 2002 V10 Class C Motorhome.

Like everyone stated, get the weight distribution hitch and sway bar. Not only for the stopping issues, but when truck pass you, it will limit the sway at highway speeds.

Also, the escape door is great to have but make sure it is configured correctly. I ordered it for mine, but it is an inch higher then wheel well and does not allow my GT500 or GT350 door to open fully. I currently have a 2x10x12 under each side of car but still need to go up approx 3" to get the escape door to work properly.

Get an ATC with full Escape Door

I have been researching these. I need to stick to 100% aluminum construction to keep the weight down, but I may still consider this one.
