Incorrect. And you knew Ford didn't attempt to set a record. The Gt and its driver, Billy Johnson, were so good that they didn't even expect anything like that as they weren't attempting it. the Ford GT just couldn't help itself.

GM went about purposefully trying to gun for it.

There was no head to head. No race. No effort to compare it to.

With the MT 500 and Corvette C8. (seriously! The Mustang is so good is has to be put up against the lightweight, two seater platform, midengine CORVETTE!! Wow) was a purposed race by a pro GM guy. And the Stang still demolished it. Completely different deal.

Take the blinders off. You really think Billy didn't know what the track record was when he went there for the fastest production car is? Yes they didn't go there to specifically break the record, but you know well he was going after it while he was there. Any racer would do that, as it would be icing on the cake. And GM did the same thing. Didn't specifically go there and break it, but knew what it was and went after it.

Ford GT500 first of all should not be compared to a Corvette C8, A Corvette is a sports car and the Mustang is a muscle/ pony. the MT test was not apples to apples, the 500 had 265 more HP, 155 more torque and had a 373 gear Corvette 355.The Corvette getting beat by a second or two is a victory for the Corvette. The GT500 better bass in the sun because It will not last long because when Corvette starts refining the new production Corvette with upgrading their suspension and horsepower lookout GT500 and yes it will be more expensive but It has been that way and there is a reason why. Before the Corvette haters start posting about my post I would love to buy a new Vette but I have been retired 10 years and the Vette is way out of my price range, so I wanted a pony car with a smaller engine and 6 speed car, after researching I got and Mustang EcoBoost PP, for years I did some amateur road racing, became a driving instructor and had a driving school, so the Mustang EcoBoost is One of the most fun cars I've had in a long time and sure would like to take it the a track. Now before all the EcoBoost haters start you can kiss my you what.

All the Boo Hooer's crying about the C8's disadvantages having to go against the Shelby need to take a closer look again and I'll spell it out one last time.
Weight....C8
Traction....C8
Suspension tune....C8
Seat time of driver(in same car)….C8 X10
Weather at track.....C8(cooler temps benefit lighter/better traction car due to traction loss)
Horsepower....wash due to traction benefits of C8.....Who won the acceleration test? Right? Also top end horsepower on longer straights is a wash because of the better aero and later braking of the C8.
Transmission....C8.....8 speed vs 7 speed

I can't think of one area that the 6 year old platform sharing "Mustang" had an advantage in, other than having more seats, and I didn't list an obvious bias of the "test team".....maybe it was engineering?
Or more likely the masses wrote a check that the Almighty Game Changing C8 platforms ass couldn't cover....

That. Tuning chassis dynamics to lay the power down on a road course. Numbers on paper are one thing, translating it to the pavement is another.

Motorcycle enthusiasts like me believe in the road racing adage 'it's much more fun to run a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow'. Balance.

GM swingers will claim the 11.1 C8 time, and 11.3 GT500 because MT says so, even though its a regular surface, with the justification being its "what an average driver can expect in the "real world" "

YET- they also accept, pro drivers, on a race course, with a manufacturer supplied race team on standby and actively making tuning adjustments for optimum performance, from said professional race drivers" to showcase absolute maximum potential "

See the disparity there? Every card handed to GM is specifically dealt with care, while Ford throws a production street ready car at them... whatever happend to seeing what the average owner can do?

Corvettes are my favorite cars (Z versions that is), but the GT500 is no longer a muscle car. It handles like a super car now. We need to get used to them being compared to corvettes when the price is similar. The last GT500 was similar in price, but it did not handle and brake like this one. The game is changing for the better.
