Looks like I'm flying up to drive back my new GT350 Saturday. Live in the Pacific Northwest, where they like rocks on the road in the winter during snow/ice. While this isn't a winter car, I will drive it (and expect dings) but I'm toying with the idea of putting some PPF on the front bumper and maybe hood. Two questions: 1) any brand preferred (I know that some companies make "kits" of precut film which may be cheaper, and 2) on another thread on here I read that when the film yellows or is damaged enough, it is almost certain to take the underlying stripes off when replaced (and my car has stripes)--any way to deal with that other than just accepting it?

Trakktape. Go to town with it
I just read the FAQ on their website. Not designed to be left on for more than 2 weeks, and doesn't fair that well in the rain (for even a few days). Given the Pacific Northwest is all about rain, it doesn't sound like the solution for me (unless I had to drive this on a single particularly bad day).

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
Sorry, I thought you were talking about driving it back home and needed immediate and temporary protection. I use Xpel Ultimate done professionally. I covered my stripes, some prefer not to.

Don't be sorry. It is a great suggestion. I'm hoping (which is risky) that the drive back won't be a big deal. Fortunately, this car (for me) is a driver. I don't want to trash it, but it doesn't have to stay in showroom fresh condition either.

I use Road Warriorr Plus and it works well for temporary protection for the street. Cannot speak for the track. See demo video below. I have left it on as long as a few weeks with no issues of getting off during a wash. Be sure to use 2 coats. The thicker the application the easier it pulls off.

Lol. Any vehicle driven outside of the garage is going to get hit by road debris sooner or later. Instead of wasting money cermic coating and wrapping it just get the front resprayed when you decide to make it look new again. No biggie folks.

Ya'll freaking out about that should see what happens when you track your car without PPF. HB is definitely past being a show car
I heard the legend tale goes that the honey badger shreds the tracks while the rest of the gt350 fan club is worried about chips and oil consumption. Shelby would be proud.

The issue (as pointed out in the Car and Driver 40K mile Shelby test is the cost of the stripes. But without stripes I agree with you--pull the bumper and respray it. At that point I guess I could delete the stripes as an option.

Yep. I guess my train of thought is if you have the cake to buy a 60-70k car a 2-3k repaint on front should not be a big deal financially if you want it looking like new again. It is what it is.

I think that will happen in summer too, not just winter if you drive the car enough... definitely more prone in winter with all the salt and crap. What I want to see, is how the car looks under after a few years driven in winter.... I bet rust everywhere.

There are quite a few galvanized panels on the Mustang. And aluminum panels. Hopefully it will take a while for significant rust to set in. But you are right that it will rust eventually. All cars do around here.

You are right; I had my rear bumper re-installed by the dealer here due to sagging ( with the new kit from Ford) and upon taking it down, they realized they had the wrong kit, and had to keep it another day.
I went to see where it is kept as I was concerned it's left outside, and I saw the car with bumper off... Let me tell you, both bumper support metal things were red from rust... surface rust only, but still. A 2 year old car at the time...
That's why I don't trust american cars after 5 year, especially here in NE... they rust just sitting still in the garage (...and I never drive mine in winter; I store it before the first snow or freezing day sets in, and take it out in April)
