800+ on 2018's- are you using opg/cs?

we always do them, especailly if your planning on pushing 800 hp. and no you are pushing the upper limits at the power on a stock engine

Why bring the GT500 into this? It supposedly has a 5.2L engine so wouldn't the harmonics in that engine be different than our 5L?

If new gt500 has the same damper as 18 then we will have an answer. On the 15+ coyotes they have smaller timing chains. Most of the time the crank gear cracks on the key way. If you ever hold one look how thin it is on the key way. Now understand its spinning 7800 and is only a $100 part. Why not just replace it.

Everyone watching these threads without them comes in here looking for reassurance that is safe. Spend $100 and stop coming here.....

Looks like the new GT500 got the 18's viscous damper (or one similar to it). Interesting indeed!


I have elected to NOT install OPG's on my 18 TT car. No dyno yet, but its trapped 144mph so its right around 800whp.

No issues yet.

heres the thing about not getting them. if they fail and trash your motor, its not just a shortblock. could trash your blower and turbo's too. easily costing 10k plus. Sorry but ill pay a couple hundred bucks for peace of mind

Unfortunately, its not a "couple hundred bucks" type of mod unless you are a DIY guy. Even then, its a BIG job for the garage mechanic.

yea that's true, I remember hypermotive offering them for around a grand installed which I thought was a good deal. but idk, I feel like if you ( the ones that do this anyways) can buy a $1800 Fore fuel system and ID injectors, you can grab some OPG/CS too lol

I hear the pistons sometimes fail as well. A set of forged pistons is what $700? I think upgrading pistons before they fail is a bargain, for the peace of mind alone.

It's argued this would not apply to 2018 cars with the viscous damper.

Not to mention the second pic has a car with an ATI pulley.

with the failures happening on the 18s the OPG/CS is my last concern. lol as posted dozens of times before if hitting the limiter or running a 2 step then they could be a good idea. ill swap mine out when i build the engine.
