Maybe there are a lot of engineers who own pre-2018 Mustangs who ate intetested in the fiasco. :bandit:
Not just engineers. How about journalists and just plain auto enthusiasts. All sorts of people with all sorts of esoteric car stuff in their past. For example, I was around when the first Ford GT prototypes were being made and even had a gag order on me at the time. Does that mean I’m one of the few that can comment on the Ford GT? The answer is obviously no...

I'm fully aware of that. My only point was there are variances in the goods. If bore centers are off, so are pistons, cylinders out of round, etc. These small companies that build great motors go through all sorts of checks before final assembly of a motor. That ain't happening at the assembly plant.
Every engine made regardless of brand has manufacturing tolerances. What's the +/- tolorance for the bore centers on the Ford drawings? Since the rods float on both end, there should be problems as long as all parts are within drawing specs. Key words are "all parts".

I agree that bad manufacturing and lousy QA can result in parts being out of drawing specs. And that's probably the cause of most of the ticking and rattling noises in the Coyote since 2011.

It seems according to the builder, the aluminum block is growing .005'' after warming up. He thinks the pistons are set up too loose resulting in the problem described. It's a simple explanation that I'll buy.

Yep, members here pretty much came to that same conclusion long ago when excessive piston slap was deemed the cause.

He has the luxury of being able to teardown and accurately measure everything, just like Ford would on returned engines that were replaced under warranty.

I'd like to hear MPR's explanation of the BBQ tick at idle, which is caused by something else besides piston slap.

I just know I am going back for the 14th time, yes you read it right 14th time tomorrow for the engine issues alone. Tomorrow is only for them to hear the 2K RPM slap then I have to go back with it once more in order for them to work on the car

But I am YouTuber and making so much money I don't know how to spend it.... In fact make 0 dollars but want to share with others in the same situation. I can tell you this I have had to spend almost 30h going back to different dealers for the engine issue alone... As a consultant it means loss of income...

I have issues with everything associated with this car lol, had issues with my first set of aftermarket wheels and now I have issues with my second (that cost me almost 3K USD) set as well lol. I have been back to the company that applied my Xpel film five times after it was applied ....

Sorry for the OT

Cold start... you hear a tick and it makes you worried, ehhh... but then you romp on it cold start and get piston scoring... Well, hmmm... Can of worms. Apparently the tick means you need a new engine but not a new Ford engine. You need bulletproof, race car grade, not your daily... Blah Blah. Tick my ass. Somebody raw dogged that bitch. Now she has ticks.

Blame like EVERY write UP on fuel saving for the last 4-6 years which have specifically been telling people they DO NOT/SHOULD NOT be warming up their cars.

I have gone in those discussions and argued with them even going so far as citing the fricken OWNERS MANUAL (had a C7 vette at the time) and the people in those groups dam near LYNCHED me for insisting cars should be warmed up for a few minutes prior to aggressive driving. They start quoting modern fab techniques and safteys and standards etc. at me and ignore all of my statements.

I don't do anything crazy, i hit the auto start button about 1 to 3 minutes before hitting the car as i am grabbing my shoes and keys and then i slowly drive about 3/4 mile out of the neighborhood. By the time i hit the stop light onto the main road ill drive it up to about 4 or 5k rpms once right off the bat and drive at 2k rpms for 4 or 5 minutes. After that i drove it like i stole it. Any car is going to occassionally get cranked and goosed when someone says "how does that exhaust sound" though...ive done it a few times. To my thinking...that SHOULD NOT destroy an engine... If it does...we have a problem.

True story...

The tick at idle is usually the fuel pump and is normal. How much of the slap issue is a genuine problem and how much is hype out of control, it is hard to tell. Mustang is leading pony car sales, and even the Challenger is whopping the Camaro. Some people cannot stand the fact that their buying choices, religion, sports teams, etc. are not recognized as perfect. Also, immature people who cannot afford nice things tend to resent those who can. They find ways to throw their tantrums. I have had spark plug wires crossed before cars came out with locking hoods, another was keyed on both sides, a cigarette flipped into the front seat through a window opened a crack. All in parking lots where it could not be a personal attack. Before the internet, and after, people have posted lies about every big company claiming a connection with Satan, witchcraft or pedophilia. We live among people that think it is OK to lie about things and people you disagree with.

That is one option I have on my short list. The "problem" with that is I really do like the car and there is not much out there that can compare when all aspects are considered(minus all the issues that is)

I am actually working on to have the possibility to have the car bought back.

I got a new one for you guys.
Have a new Bullitt with 300 miles on it. Been very careful with it since day 1. Got it with 6 miles on it so nobody drove the car but me. I let it warm up and once fully warm I have not been over 4K rpm's once.
So every time I start the car from cold the engine chirps like a bird for a good 10 minutes. After that is is completely silent. The chirping sounds like it's coming from the passenger side cylinder head.
Every Ford I buy gives me trouble. I had an 86GT than burned 15 quarts of oil in 3000 miles until they finally put a new engine in it after a battle of course.
I also have a MOPAR Hemi with a good old-fashioned cast iron block. Runs like a dream. Guess they are not as stupid as Ford yet. No more Ford's for me! Good luck to all pray you get a good one.
Sounds like you need the prayers the most ...except your mopar of course
What’s a gently used Bullit sell for?
What color is it?

Holy Geezus the random assumptions in this thread and the Kool aide drinkin or whatever Pro 5.0 is on must be some good shit it makes my head hurt going through 4 pages of this thread.

Anyone ever found someone on youtube that does NOT have the OMGBBQTICK engine?

LOL seems like every single one does and every single new mustang channel just makes videos whinimg about the engines.

But hey what does it matter the clicks and engine ticks make them money LMFAO.

Every youtube jackhole spewing bullshit and unfounded random guesses is just as bad as this thread.

Ive got 2018 5.0 A10, I use the auto start ever morning amd drive it like I stole it with cruise set at 80 mph down the insterstate every single day since i got the car in sept.

Not a single noise from mine but hey maybe apparently kind of sort of I just must be one of the lucky ones.....

SMH.
I'm not on any Kool aid what have I said that makes your head hurt ?
