so, it would seem logical that there is enough room in the engine bay of the new mustang to put a V6 engine in (they did prior the the 18s anyway)... so why not instead of dropping the v6, or even bothering with a turbo 4, give me a twin turbo v6 option?! the power you could make would be crazy, and the car would probably be pretty damn fast considering itll make the big truck move like it does. are they just trying to keep the 5.0s around as long as possible?

and as far as the turbo 4 goes. i feel like they could have made that engine a tad bigger, or used a bigger turbo, or maybe gone with a supercharger instead... i love the car, but i still feel like my supercharged mini cooper is still faster (even though it is souped up)... i would have just expected more from a car (stang) that has 100+ more HP out of the box than the mini

let me know if there are any F150 turbo swaps into any mustangs too! lol

Hmm, interesting thought. Perhaps the performance would be too similar to the 5.0. It might be more fuel efficient through. The turbo V6 looks more complicated though and hard to work on as opposed to the V8.

Just wait till the new 7th gen mustang comes out and you'll see.

Also people with 15-17 s550's with the V6 have pulled the turbos off of ecoboost trucks. But with the turbos being so small they didn't really make all that much power. I believe around 430-450 wheels was as far as they could push those turbo's.

Stick around long enough and you’ll likely see one in showrooms.

For now, there’s nowhere to slot such an engine in the current lineup.

2.3L Turbocharged 320hp
5.0L N/A 460hp
5.2L N/A 526hp
5.2L Supercharged 720hp

Yep, the F-150 Ecoboost is 450HP, 510 ft/lb. Where would you fit that in the lineup? In the F-150 lineup the 3.5L Ecoboost is a $600 premium over the V8. I think Ford figured (correctly) that people still wanted the V8 in the Mustang. That being said, the writing is definitely on the wall.

I think the reason is that the NA V8 makes good power and many people think a V8 sounds better. Need more power than the NA V8? Get a GT500.

I'm not a fan of V6s myself, but I'm sure some people here would buy one. Don't think a twin turbo V6 would be sold for less money than a 5.0, though. It would be a big buck option if offered in the Mustang.

I was really hoping the new GT500 would be a twin turbo V8. That would be the best option in my opinion. Much better than a supercharger or going down to a V6.

Who do i have to **** to get the 2.7 (most viable) , 3.0 (2nd viable) , or 3.5 (least viable)? 2.7 Would be an easy swap since the 10 speed is used in trucks and mustangs?

Agreed. A TTV6 would make similar power to the V8 and not sound nearly as good.
The V8 and its sound is the reason I am considering a Mustang instead of the TTI6 BMW M2Competition, despite the mustang being slower, bigger, and heavier.

The 3.7 is an excellent engine for the Mustang, but some desk jockey decided that the Ecoboost fitted the corporate future better. The 5.0 is an image choice. More power than required for street use, but necessary for defining the Mustang. And it could easily be replaced by the 3.5 Ecoboost if power was the only issue. I would have preferred the 2.7 Ecoboost, but they have lots of experience with the four in the Focus and Fiesta. And it fits the niche they are going with.

Simple answer? It didn't fit in the S550 chassis (for mass-production, key point) without a lot of changes to those engines or the chassis itself. Both the 2.7L and 3.5L were evaluated for this.

I'd rather have an I4 than any V6. The V6 is the least manly, poorest sounding, lamest engine configuration to place is a sport/muscle car.

Yuck.

A twin turbo V6 would potentially eat a 5.0 for lunch. Depends on the turbos, boost, etc. but the up-front weight would also be less, improving handling and shaving weight off the car. The 4 cylinder Ecoboost already holds its own pretty well. Imagine the wails from the Mustang community if Ford dropped the V8 right now. Can you imagine the V8 option being a lesser choice on the configurator? Not sure how that would pan out. Times are changing though, and at some point I think it could happen. Who is going to blink first, GM or Ford? My bet is on Ford jumping in first. They have already embraced turbo V6 power in the new Ford GT.

To me, a TTV6 Mustang doesn't make sense right now. The power would be too similar to the 5.0 and it would probably not be any cheaper (or potentially more expensive if you look at the F150 lineup). Also, it would not be any lighter, since those turbos, intercooler(s), and charge piping all add a good amount of weight. I certainly would not have bought a TTV6 Mustang if it were available, even if it made more torque and had better MPGs than the 5.0. I think most GT owners here feel the same.
