When I change my oil this spring, I'm debating whether I should even change the filter - it will only have ~2500 miles on it. Should I even bother? Oil, yes, filter, not so sure it's necessary. Opinions welcome.
Don't need opinions, do a search and find a few of the posts, complete with photos, as to some of the stuff that ends up in filters for the first change ater break in.......do it.

I don't have a GT350 so don't know if this will work for you guys, but a trick I learned with several vehicles and motorcycles that make a mess when the oil filter is loosened:

Slightly loosen the filter first but not enough to lose any oil. Cut a plastic 20oz, quart or 2 liter soda bottle in half (whatever fits), slip the bottom half on the oil filter and use it as a grip to finish unscrewing the filter out. The oil will cascade down the side of the filter into the plastic bottle holding it. I do that trick and it usually prevents 90 - 100%+ of any mess.

Absolutely it should be changed. Especially if its the first change. Still may have fine metal particles from break in

After loosening filter, i wrap it with a grocery bag and finish loosening it while holding it with plastic bag, works like a charm without making any mess.

Thanks guys I will give the funnel a try.

The bag method I used before (I used big zip lock bags that are thick) but the problem is with oil/filter so hot, they started melting and getting stuck on things).

The only other approach I disnt try was the cutting of plastic bottle and putting it on the filter.

Somewhat of an aside, but what does everyone think about spin-on oil filter relocation plates? There should be room for a filter behind the airbox. Maybe safety wire one of the AN fittings off of the adapter plate to ensure no vibration issues. I think it'd serve two purposes: peace of mind against the oil filter backing off and a more accessible/clean filter location.

Gee, thanks for the tip.

I suppose I should have been clearer - I have changed the 350 oil/filter in the past (cut open the filter to find nothing but and oily filter). My point is, considering the factory oil/filter change intervals is 7K to 10K miles (under normal driving conditions), is changing the filter after 1/3 to 1/4 that mileage even necessary, especially considering it is a bit of a PITA.

When I change my Porsche oil this spring, should I replace the filter? I only drove it 234 miles last year? Is that filter spent, too? Don't answer, I'll make my own decision.

Looks like your answer is right there.

I would change the filter because I may keep the car for quite a few more years. I changed my oil and filter at 1,000 miles and I've changed it at significantly less than the factory recommendation several times since. I think that having clean, pure oil in the engine is cheap insurance toward higher power production and longer engine life. A filter full of impurities doesn't flow as well and we all know our Voodoo engines flow a lot of oil.

I realize you also posted that you will make up your own mind. I know you will do that. I did want to post my own point of view, though.

The funnel method works well. Removing the left front wheel makes it real easy.

Look at my hr361 thread. One of the pages documents a method. Remove a wheel and use a funnel.
^^^^ This!

I’ve used his method and it makes it a lot easier as far access goes ..... without any oily mess. Check out Tom’s ‘HR361’ thread.

One a side note.... That sign would look great in my garage. :D Is that MCO? Next to 17R/35L?

I did my first oil change yesterday. I tried LMR's cardboard method. It helped a bit, but it still dribbled all over the skid plate.

Haven't seen or heard a peep out of you in a while. I threw that photo up to see if you would catch it. Next time, I'll throw up the bat signal.

I used Al foil, worked ok. Biggest issue for me - I wasn't expecting the firehose effect of that bigass oil drain plug. Just glad my garage floor is epoxied
