What’s the cons of running octaninum every fill up with 91? Besides the cost.

My 2016 GT pp is tuned with Lund racing and sees +knock without a booster like octaninum. Gas is crap in Cali where I live and the car responds so much better with octaninum. Car has corsa extreme cat back. Roush CAI Lund tune for now.

Thanks

Curious what + values you see. I'm over the hill in NV and we get the same crappy 91 here. I installed a supercharger and instantly found out how bad the 91 here is. I see + values in the +3-6 range on WOT logs and really wish I would have been smart enough to look at the knock values before I installed the blower. Anyway, just curious what you are seeing.

Sorry I don't have any info on long term MMT use, but am also interested in the topic. Hope some long term users can chime in.

I’m seeing anywhere from +2 to +6 at half throttle and increases at WOT. Lund had sent me a tune file with lower timing and the knock has gone down a lot but so does the feel in power. I would love to use the first revised tune as a daily but I do need a booster.

Do you have E85 available in your area? Might be able to mix some in to reduce knock instead of boosters all the time.

I have one location 10 miles away. Would I need a flex tune or just a ratio of 91 and e85?

Not for e20 just using 20% ethanol. It's not a bad idea just to get a flex fuel tune since it can automatically adjust for ethanol content after 5-10 miles the computer will learn pretty fast. Ideal to keep a E85 can and just fill it every so often or mix at the gas station E40 or 40% mix works rather well and not a terrible hit on fuel economy that I've noticed. Gas in California is crap that's for sure. There is plenty of ethanol calculators that you can download and you would want to test concentration of the ethanol so in short it's far easier to just get a flex fuel tune and let it calculate itself without having to worry about that.

That's cool, there is an e85 station in Desert Hot Springs. You can mix it right there. Gas in Palm Springs sucks, so does the rest of this Valley's. Have to mix it out here to get decent fuel.

I went through the same thing a month or so ago. Was getting positive knock at WOT runs and some at random. Lund told me to try Octanium + 91 and that helped with the knock but not fully. I have Kooks catted longtubes and you can smell the Octanium behind me for about an 1/8th mile and its not a great smell. Will definately attract unwanted attention. Bottle states not for use with O2 sensors or cats so that was also iffy.

I ended up running a Flex Fuel tune and on straight e85. Basically elimated all positive knock. I am getting 13.5 mpg currently and having to fill up every 3 days which isn't ideal. I'm probably going to try mixing later on but it has become a burden to some extent with the limited stations where I live.

I contacted Lund about doing a flex fuel tune just waiting for a response. I don’t mind the lower MPG as long as the knock is eliminated and I’ll be worry free @ WOT. Thanks for your input I think the flex fuel tune will be the answer to my problem.

IS our gas really that bad? What company you guys get your gas from. Maybe I just don’t notice it due to the mild Ford performance tune and not datalogging. For reference I use Costco gas, they basically bring a tanker every other day.

It's oxygenated and lower octane in California, definitely not a great quality for the price we are charged.
